What's the most cost-efficient way of getting round London?

I'm going on a 2-day visit to London, on the train. Can you get an Oyster card just for 2 days, or is there a cheaper way to see the sights?

Use the Oyster card.
You have to pay a 3 pound refundable deposit, and then all journeys are cheaper (a bus is just about 90p). Its better than a one day travel card as if you travel so many journeys that it would exceed the cost of a travel card, it is capped and will not charge you any more.
Hope that helps, and remember to take it back for a refund before you go
Have fun

Oyster travel card is your best bet...but make sure you also do lots of walking so you can appreciate the architecture....something you don't see when riding the tube.

travel card after 9:30am, best and cheapest

walking -and you also see more. Tube stations are so big that by the time you go down and then come up you could have walked to many locations

If you are doing lots of travelling on sveral journeys, just buy a travel card each day. Make sure you get it after 9.30 as it becomes cheaper.

If you are only doing a couple of journeys, then get a pre-pay oyster card with about £8 on it, as it will last until you come down to London again as it doesn't expire.

use the double Decker bus for sight seeing

Buy an off peak travel card and also a time out,in the time out it'll show you all the free places you can visit in London as well as any you have to pay for.........

All day travel card for all zones, or just for the zones you want to go to. Go for example in Victoria Station and ask at travel information. Tell them where you want to go and they will tell you exactly what's the cheapest way. That's if you want to individually go to places. But if you just know you want to see the most important places in London, just buy a ticket for the doubledecker sightseeing bus, that is valid for 48 hours, and it will take you to all the places you can see in London. You can get down from the bus and get in again at any station, again, valid for 48 hours. Good luck!

On foot, most of the sights are within a 2 mile radius of Trafalgar Square

It depends where you're going, what you want to see and how far these things are apart. But I'd say an Oyster one-day travel card is definitely the best bet. Avoid paying per journey.

An Oyster travel card is cost effective as you can make as many journeys as you like, without extra cost. Basically once you've made two trips, the others are free, within the zone you've chosen.

The cheapest way to see sights is obviously to walk, but this only works if what you want to see is all in close proximity. Even zone 1 is too large to walk around, especially out west.

Busses are very cheap too, per trip, but with an Oyster travel card, you will probably get the same saving, over multiple journeys.

If you're visiting places that need the train (overland) or DLR (Docklands Light Railway), an Oyster card is a good bet. Just make sure you get the right zone if you're going many times, or zone extension, if you're going once.

The tube does cover a huge amount of London, so with an Oyster travel card, you will do well. As long as you pay "flat rate" and don't pay per journey, you should travel for as cheaply as possible.

It's best that you use the red double deck bus. It brings you to all the "must see" places in London. It also includes a boat cruise along Thames river. The fare is highly reasonable. It's a hop on hop off bus. You'll surely enjoy it.

pinker80
Buy a travel card from your train station i know you can get a one day travel card but there's no harm in asking if they do a two day card it's very cost effective and works on all public transport in London and possibily the water buses too

Roger Henderson
The underground tubes, learn them and you can get around London in minutes. Plus you can buy all day explorer tickets which are quite cheap. But learn the subways it will save you so much time and you will never get lost.

I heard walking is pretty cheap these days!

Get a pair of mobility scooters from a soopermarket and drive them when your legs get tired!

Buses tend to run fairly often as well... London aint gonna be cheap anyway so live with it (Londons 8.6 million ethnic locals do) and enjoy yourself!
