What To Wear To Musicals (Male)?

What are guys expected to wear during musicals in London? I was in Australia a month ago and there was no dress code at all--just wear something, I was told. How about in London? I plan to watch Les Miz, Lion King, etc.

Thanks!

Wear what ever you'll feel comfortable in, bearing in mind that you'll be sitting in the same seat for a while, and most of the lights will be off anyway.

I saw the Lion King musical in London and wore jeans and a jumper/sweatshirt and didn't get any glares.

You can wear slacks with matching polo shirt or coat. Or just the casual attire.

Wear whatever you want, no-one will care if you turn up in jeans and a t-shirt. Musicals are not really considered as "serious" theatre in the UK, they are supposed to be a fun night out and not high art...and absolutely no-one dresses up in a dinner-jacket just to watch Les Miz!

I dont think it really matters, I mean if it was the opera or theartre youd wear some nice trousers shoes shirt an jacket, but Id say for a musical smart casual

Go casual friend there is no dress code. You will love Les Mis, i have seen it 9 times in the past year. The reason being is the actor playing Valjean,John Owen Jones, In my eyes he is the best valjean. You will have a blast at the other shows as well. Try and check out grease and joseph. These shows will be very popular as the lead actors have won there roles on competitions on national tv,so there is a lot of interest in them......Enjoy!!!!!!

You can wear what you like

Today you can wear whatever you want to the theatre. But smart-casual is fine, no need to dress up in a suit or formal wear. Maybe a smart pair of jeans and nice top.
The majority of people who go to the theatre now, especially musicals, will be dressed very casually.

Although the scene is very relaxed, I wouldn't show up in jeans and a ratty t-shirt. For a male, I would suggest nice slacks and possibly a button-down shirt. No trainers!

I went to see 'Wicked' (awesome musical, I really recommend it) and although no one was particularly dressed up, you didn't see anyone who just walked up from off the street.

Enjoy your stay in London!
