Skegness "That effing dump in Licolnshire."

Rhyll "That effing dump in North Wales"

Personal nicknames from wasted horrible holidays until I saw the light and started to go abroad.

Wolves is Not a nickname for Wolverhampton the town; it's the short for for Wolverhampton Wanderers, the football team.

Hull is not really a nickname for Kingston upon Hull, nor is Newcastle the nickname for Newcastle on Tyne or Newcastle Under Lyme.

Birmingham = Brum,
London = The Smoke,
Edinburgh = Ould Reekie,
Portsmouth = Pompey (also the football team),
Bristol = Brissle.

Lucia.
We have affectionately named Southend 'scumbucket'

yes brum is wat it now should be named!

and although wolves is the football team most people now do refer to the place as wolves. so it can be said to be a nickname.

even west bromwich is just merely west brom and coventry shortened to cov. maybe it just didn't sound right shortening birmingham to birms?

BRUM ALL THE WAY!!!!!! HEHE
