What age would you let someone go to London by themselves?

What age do you think someone should be allowed to go into London by themselves?

Whenever able to get around on their own, and perfectly happy doing it....what would be the point of going to London if you were scared the whole time?

Everyone should be taught how to get around on busses, trains and the underground, how to hire a taxi-cab, how to read maps, how to access the assistance of friendly strangers and the police, how to order and dine alone / pay ones tab in a restaurant, how to find assistance if in a tight spot ... how to behave whilst shopping, how to pay for things and count one's change .... and stay within the law when it comes to grown up things like drinking, etc...and to keep to some sort of itinerary in order to get everything done, whatever one has planned for oneself, to dress appropriately in order to send the right message to others, and to avoid being picked up by or - conversely - to pick up strangers
who are potentially dangerous.....the whole lot.

I think growing up early is a good thing... it is good to know that you can find your way by yourself. There are many too many things that come in our direction that convince us of our inability to do and to think for ourselves, to live by our own directives....

So:
whenever it is
safe
and
a good experience

I hope that is helpful in some way

I was 16 but that was a few years ago so now i'd say maybe 18 is a better age, depends on the person and how responsible they are?.

I don't know. I guess it depends on how responsible and mature the person is. I'd say 16, but people that were under could go with a responsible adult or another person of the same age. It is better to be safe then sorry. Im 16 and I prefer to go out places with people that I know, so.. if anything happens, we are slightly safer. My mum has brought me up to be very safe and wary about myself. :)

Depends on the type of person, the area of London, the time of day they're going, the purpose of the visit, and how familiar with the area they already are. I know a couple of 13 year olds who I'd allow, but I also know some 19 year olds who I wouldn't.

I was 14 when I was exploring central London on my own.

But London was far safer in those days (1960s) than it is now.
