Your nationality is determined by your country of primary residence. (For instance, I've lived in the United States for most of my life, therefore my nationality would be American.) What I believe you're asking about is your ETHNICITY. If your grandmother is from England, then your ethnicity is definitely English (you could say "British," too).

You can use the terms "UK", "Great Britain" and "England" interchangeably, but "England" would be the most precise answer.

Any. England is a nation included within both the terms the UK and Great Britian.

** just for the record, MANY irish people do not consider themselves part of the United Kingdom

Only one Grandmother?

You can only be English if your parents are English.

If you are not of English origin and born in England, you are British.

Siany C
Strictly speaking, you are British, as England is a part of the British Isles.

Lou
I was told that if you go for a job interview always say that you are British, because if you say you are English you sound stupid ?

But you are technically English... I would say.

But it's up to you really. you are what you feel.

My Grandmother is from France but I don't class myself as French. I am from Wales so I'm Welsh and British, both are correct, as is English and British. Anyone who is English, Welsh, Scottish or from Northern Ireland is also British.

your nationality is English, but it this way, you don't get anyone from Scotland or Wales saying they are British..........British is a collective name

you are english, i was born in scotland and i class myself as scottish

The united Kingdom is made of 4 countries, England, wales, scotland and northern ireland.

Under International law the country is Britain. But in terms of identity it is somewhat difficult.

I know Assyrians, Bohemians, Palestenians, Scottish, Welsh, Mongolians (from Northern China), Tibetans, Taiwanese, Hong Kong People and so on. None of these places are recognised by the United Nations.

Rather it is about individual identify. My father's side of the family is English and my mother's side is Scottish, even though both families had moved out from home a long time past.

Your natiionality is your citizenship, so it depends on who gets to give a passport.

YOu can say you have British or English heritage (for someone of your Grandmother's era, being British was important).

Personally I was a citizen of no nation until the age of 10, so my answer is, I am a person. Stuff nationality.

My mum used to tell me that i was English, aside from the fact I am half Irish and a little bit French! Anyway I was born In England and a lot of older people think that makes you English.

It is not wrong but the act of union makes us all BRITISH! So that is what I call myself.

Lobster
Officially, your nationality is British, but your label is what you want it to be :)

officially you're British

but many would say English - most people specify now , in this age of seperatism and nationalism.

personally I say either depending on the context and situation

Davehammers

I'm sure you can tell people that your grandmother is from either Great Britian or England. The UK is fine, but it is England, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales. Great Britian is just England, Scotland, and Ireland. Take your pick, if people want to know what part of the UK or Great Britian, they will probably ask

frclld
Unnited Kingdom is Scotland, Irland, England and Wales. You are English because you are from England.

SC1979
Just tell people you're a native of the planet earth, a member of the human race, free of the shackles of nationality!
Or whatever.
Just don't say you're Welsh, nobody likes the Welsh.

Yellow Walrus After Dark...
On some official application forms you could say you are British, however some other forms you can say you are European. Also with reference to the Northern Ireland identity, inhabitants have the right to hold both British and Irish passports, so there is automatically dual citizenship.

It depends on how political you are....you can call yourself either....according to citizenship you are british....but you can call yourself english or british.

I prefer English when the football is on and british when it isnt..

I find people with mixed family roots i.e. scottish, irish and english and live in england will call themselves british maybe......Its up to you really but i would go for English

where were you born? if you were born in England your English, if in Scotland then Scottish if in Wales then Welsh if in Ireland then Irish.

British is all the nationalities of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. all people of the UK have a British passport as there is not an English, Scottish, Welsh or Norther Irish passport.

Joanne
You are classed as British but you can be English if you want ... personally I would never admit to being English! WELSH all the way!!!!!!!
