Try pembrokeshire in Wales, it has great beaches if your interested in that stuff, theres a really good one called "barafundle bay" but if not you may want to try a city like Cardiff.

SARAH
North Norfolk in particular Sheringham and the surrounding area (Holt, Blakeney) I live here now and wouldn't want to live anywhere else. Its so tranquil and un-spoilt and not at all commercialised as you would expect from being a coastal resort. We have lovely beaches and amazing scenery....... Well worth a visit in my view.

The City of York, which features:
- The World's Largest Railway museum
- An Ancient defensive wall round the city evolved from Viking, Roman + Medieval times
- York Minster, the 2nd Largest church in Northern Europe
- A huge variety of buildings of different styles
More info:

Pics from my last visit (including the journey there & back by Bus):

Also, as featured in the above load of pics, the North Yorkshire Moors on the 2hr Bus trip between York, and my Home town of Whitby on the North Yorkshire Coast.

Highlights include:
Thornton-le-Dale, a jaw droppingly pretty little village along the A170 road that goes from Scarborough, to Pickering, then on towards Helmsley & Thirsk.

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway...... a 20mile long preserved Steam Railway (one of the top ones in the UK) that winds through some of the most jaw dropping scenery through the Moors between Pickering & Grosmont.
http://www.nymr.demon.co.uk/

One of the stops (the 2nd to last before Grosmont), being the station in the village of Goathland...... which may be more recognisable as the location for HOGSMEADE STATION in the first 2 HARRY POTTER movies.

Then there's my hometown of Whitby..... voted BRITAIN'S BEST SEASIDE RESORT http://www.havencrest.worldonline.co.uk/wdta/directory/TopPops.html

Elsewhere in the country I highly recommend the Norfolk Broads

Well,Bluemagic, you don't say how old you are but I am a 74 UK citizen and have travelled around most of England and I can tell you that the most magic of all places has to be South Devon. I would suggest a trip to Teignmouth take the ferry over the river to Shaldon and just enjoy the scenery and lovely people there. If you are young then its not far to Torquay where you can find some night life. With due respect to the people of Liverpool, Grimsby or Scunthorpe, these places would be the last places I would go for a nice visit. Have a nice holiday wherever you choose.

If you're down South on a sunny afternoon, go to Dover Castle. It's right near the sea, so you get a good view sitting on a hillside. It's also got (interesting!) historical exhibits on such diverse topics as a medieval siege and the second world war.

Dover gets a lot of stick but it's really not a bad place.

Stone henge and peak district are pretty good, but no matter what anyone says dont go to Wales :O

Stonehenge was overrated in my opinion. You cannot go up as close as you would like which is disappointing. I liked the city of Bath. Lots of history and a very beautiful setting. It is also not that far from London so you can do it as day trip. If you go further north I also recommend that you have a cosy few nights in the Yorkshire area - you will really feel as if you have stepped back in time. Have fun!

Watch the sunset at Portishead (near Bristol) on the bank above the open air swimming pool. Beautiful and peaceful 100%.

Liverpool is a great city and european capital of culture in 2008.

North Wales and The lake district and the Yorkshire dales are all in easy reach tool.

Avoid London as its a rip off and the people are rude.

Longleat in Bath is brilliant, there is so much to do there, the safari park, safari boat and so many activities up at the house. The grounds are also beautifal. It isn't too expensive either.

Centreparks is right next door or there are loads of little country b&b's near by that are really sweet.
