I think you should try NOT being so critical of other cultures, when you know NOTHING about them! Get out of your cave, and travel, see the world, mingle with people in other places, and learn something constructive and useful instead. Open your mind.
I happen to be an American, who LOVES the English and their culture and have lived among them and made great friends there.... and NO, they do NOT care imitating the American rap/hip hop culture! They have their own culture and have contributed quite a lot throughout the years towards music, and the arts in general. Have brought incredible talent into the world. Look at half our singers and most actors in "our" movies. Guess where they are from?!! ENGLAND!!!!

A 'wigger', is a 'wannabe n*gger'. So a white, or Asian etc person, who want's to be a gangster. But they end up looking like chavs. They end up wearing New Era flat caps and carry around a knife or a gun.
A 'chav', is a white person, who dresses in trackies (basically sports wear), wears tons of fake gold jewellery, speaks like a tramp and generally have ASBO's. They also wear Burberry. The girls, usually wear big gold hoop earings and wear tons of make-up. Oh and have a Croydon face-life (which is where you pull your hair so tight into a pony tail, that you can barely make face expressions). They terroise people in the streets. They carry around weapons.
Someone wrote about chav's living in council houses? I know bare people that live in council houses and they ain't chavs. Because you basically saying that people who live in 'owned' houses are rich.
Also, we DON'T imitate your music. We have something called 'Grime' and 'Garage'. East London invented Grime. Dizzee Rascal, Crazy Titch (now in prison for murder), Tinchy Stryder, Jme etc all grime artists. As for garage, google a little someone called So Solid Crew.

As far as accents go, there are myriad accents in the UK! There are probably as many people who sound chavy as there are people who sound totally posh. In other words, not many!
In all the years that I lived in England, not once did I ever hear anyone say 'crikey' or 'matey'. Where in hell did you get the idea that Brits say those words? Idiot! |

Firstly, we don't all speak Queens English! There are many regional accents in the UK.
Second, chav stands for "council house and violent" or it comes from the word charver. It's an really deragotry term here.
Chavs are usually portrayed as: white, unemployed, uneducated, antisocial, alcoholic and violent.

I live in Liverpool and if anyone said anything like that, people would probably start attacking you =) If you came to the UK, some of the people here would scare you like hell! Chavs dress in tracksuits and the girls wear well to much make-up with huge gold hoop earrings. They go around terrorising normal people in town and on the bus. We are not all cockneys and most of the black population are West Indian / African in origin.
Drug and gun crime are on the up and there have been too many shootings / stabbings here to mention.
This, however has nothing to do with Chavs. We tend to call the youths that you would call gangstas - "hoodies" - due to the fact that they tend to wear a hood to cover their faces from the cameras.
Chavs are usually white. They wear baseball caps and the women wear huge hoop gold earrings with their hair scraped back. They wear sportswear and anything with a designer logo - especially Burberry. |
