Anything by Dickens really. Or you could try watching the movie 'Love Actually'. It's uncanny how they caught the reality of London today. Just can't stop that @*&^^# Prime Minister knocking on my front door and threatening to sing... |

I bought a book called working and living in London. It is about 5 years old now but was very useful especially as a foreigner. |

If you want to really about London you don't need a book, just really, make a favour to yourself and read my lips... Don't ever come here...is AWWWWFUUUULLLLL !!!!
Everything is complicated, opposite, full of taxes and fines, people in general is upset all the time, if you finally have a job you are forced to work 12 hours for 5 pounds the hour for barely being able to live IN A ROOM sharing with other people that, believe me...in one month you will hate cause you don't have privacy, after pay for the Oyster Card for being able to go again to your job you will have just a few pounds to spent in expensive bad food and ultra expensive beer...
Even the attraction are old fashioned and amazingly expensive... this is London... They had expended 3 billion of pounds in the Irak war and now they are firing people in the hospitals like crazy and sending people home just after bisturi... really, London stinks, is all that people should know.
Believe, Go to Spain, to Australia, Norway, Miami or Paris...don't make this mistake. |

The Lonely Planet Britain book is very good. It has an extensive London section and has a bonus of covering the rest of Englad, Wales and Scotland as well. Many of the best places in the U.K. are outside of London, so this book may give you the motivation to explore. |

I'd like to add Frommers and Let's Go to the list. Really any nice thick travel book that you find at the bookstore should be fine. One of the earlier answerers suggested A-Z. That's a really good street map and it's extremely useful. |

Forget the book just go visit! find for yourself, it's a great city there's tons to do and tons of things to see. You can get no better information than to be there. Ask about legal issues of moving when you get there. |

There are no books that provide you with the best information on his very wide subject such as best places to visit and useful information if you want to move there, in fact you would be better not moving there as its full of londoners. |
