Depends what your interests are. Alton Towers if you like scary rides - amusement park. Longleat, if you like lions and safari stuff. Birmingham if you want the National Exhibition Centre with it's concerts, exhibitions, shows and loads of other stuff too. The new Science museum in Birmingham has a new name - I forget what - visit that while you are there - amazing. Go to the Black Country Living museum in Dudley - not too far from Birmingham. Birmingham also has a conference centre, jewellery quarter, Chinese quarter, the Balti belt and lots of other stuff. It's also very multi cultural if you're not actually English. In fact, spot someone white - take a picture.

If you mean close to London then Hampton Court Palace and Park, Windsor Castle, Greenwich, Kew Gardens, St Albans, Richmond Park -- these are all a fairly short distance from London and could be day or half day trips.

Brighton, great place to go, the pier, cockles, many things!
Blackpool, for the sole reason of seeing Blackpool Tower up close.

It would be impossible to list all the attractions that this beautiful country of ours has to offer but here are a few, The English Lake district is breathtaking, The Peak district,York, Newcastle, The Yorkshire dales, Cumbria, Blackpool ( I personally hate the place but many love it) The North east coast, Whitby,Harrogate.I would suggest that you buy a book or research northern England on the web.

Not being in London for a start.

Countryside, Histroy, culture take your pick. No smog! No arrogant commuter types! Tell me where outside of London and I'll tell you what there is.

Lulu
Stonehenge, Bath and the Cotswolds.
