Its huge... take three days!
The most important parts are the Saxon collection, the Sutton Hoo Burial mask, and Alfred the Greats purse stone.
In the Greek section, the Parthenon Frieze is a must.
The Roman coffins in the Egyptian section, with wax portraits are superb,
The Prints and Drawing room exhibitions are awesome
You should see the Rosetta Stone - but my favourite are the the Lewis Chessmen. |

There are exhibitions from all over the world dating back to 600BC or earlier.
Just wander around everywhere. There is an information point downstairs and they will give you a guidance. |

Check their website. The Elgin Marbles are worth a visit. It's a real Aladdin's cave, oh and the library. |

The Parthenon and Erectheion sculptures from the Acropolis of Athens. They were sort of stolen in the 18th century by Elgin, but now they're there, and they are masterpieces. |

My personal favourite exhibition in the British Museum is the Japanese arts collection (it is on one of the top floors, IIRC).
It is very quiet and peaceful there and the art is truly spectacular. It is one of the few collections of this kind in Europe. |
