What are the most romantic places in England for a couple of days off with your girlfriend or boyfriend? |
I am about 25-year-old, and live in Manchester, I want to find a place somewhere not too far to stay for a night, to celebrate the 2-year anniversary of the relationship with my girlfriend. Please do help me out!!! thanks~ |

Find yourself a lovely hotel in the Lakes - you will have fabulous scenery during the day and then can have a great meal in the evening, before properly celebrating that anniversary back in your room!
If scenery doesn't do it for you, then you have great cities near Manchester - York is wonderful, if slightly too full of tourists. Durham is gorgeous, although you may have to stay outside it for the most romantic hotel. Chester and Shrewsbury are also attractive.
Do a google search on romantic hotels north england - you will find several sites offering lovely hotels - some in castles, and I'm sure you will find something that fits your tastes and your budget!
Have a fabulous time! |

Take this worth a grain of salt--I'm just an American but I think I can help.
Shrewsbury or really anywhere in Shropshire is absolutely beautiful and sort of quaint. There is certainly enough to do for a weekend and the countryside is lovely. I'm not sure about Shrewsbury's nightlife, though. If that's absolutely essential maybe try Telford.
And if you're willing to travel a bit just about anywhere in Wales is breathtaking. But, again, nightlife (except in Cardiff) is probably lacking. |

Please take her to York. She'll love it and you too. And it won't cost you a bomb. |

You have so many choices.
1. Stratford-on Avon. Home of the famous Bard, William Shakespeare himself. It's all about love! This is the place if you ever wanted to see a play. The parks are great too.
2. Whitby in North Yorks. Wonder around the old parts of the town, Walk on the pristine beach at Sandsend. Go to any one of a number of picturesque villages on the moors such as Goathland (where they filmed Heartbeat), Grosmont, Egton Bridge etc. Whitby has an anual Regatta in August, Folk week, Jazz festival, Dracula/Goth weekends (Dracula was written there) and much more.
3. The Lake Districk but head for the smaller places. By all means start in Keswick or Bowness-on-Windermere but also go to Ambleside before you go off to places like Hawkshead, Visit Tarn Hows for the sunset. Amazing view (you can drive or walk to it). Have a cruise on the lake, even do some hill walking if you like. At night you can find a quiet village pub or busy town gathering point such as Ambleside. It is a great place.
4. York, Lincoln, Canterbury or Durham. All historic cathedral cities worth wondering around.
5. Norfolk Broads. Nothing like floating along the sheltered waterways stopping in at village pubs etc. along the way. Very restful & intimate but would require a few days.
You did not name your interests, nor the month you wish to travel so it is hard to choose but if I had to choose one from my list, taking into consideration you are in Manchester, I would go with the Lake District - just an hour up the road.
Hope you have a good time! |

York. it's such a beautiful old city.... i can't do it justice by describing it in words... best thing to do is look online at the pictures of the city.... have a look at the medieval part of the city, know as the shambles, and also at York Minster. i'm not a religious person, but i love the minster. the architecture and the stained glass windows are amazing... there's also some lovely parks, and u can take boat rides down the river that runs through the centre of the city.... i'd also recommend the ghost walks that show u some of York's more violent past... o - and jorvik viking centre, york dungeons, and york castle museum are all really worth visiting.
also, it's less than a 2 hour drive away from manchester. |

One of the most romantic places I've been to in the UK is Tintagel, the location of King Arthur's castle. I think the area is beautiful, and definitely has a romantic history to learn about too. Might be a touch far from Manchester, but if you have a long weekend, it is definitely worth it. Here's a website about Tintagel. Check out the photos:

Know it's a long way but definately St Ives, Cornwall. You need a beach to walk on for the romance to kick in... |

Keswick in the Lake District.
It is a beautiful market town and you are surrounded by lakes and mountains. Been there hundreds of times as I love hill walking ,so I can definitely recommend it. |

I'm with Malcolm and ddlmu - gotta be the lakes. Like Malcolm says Keswick is really nice - good places to eat, nice malks, cruise on the lake - or Windermere/Ambleside - nice hotels round there too. |

Cotswolds are lovely as is the Lake district, Peak district. There are sooo many hotels, b&b's etc in these parts. Just put the area you fancy into a search engine and see what takes your fancy!
Me and hubby are going away without kids for the first time in 8 years in November and I can't wait!!!
She's a lucky girl - you are very thoughtful! |
