Sheffield is a hell hole that should be razed to the ground. They are constantly digging up the roads and changing the layouts, rendering any directions you get, off Routeplanner or the like, totally pointless. Every time I navigate my way round I end up on the same bloody roundabout, which is always at the opposite side of town to where I need to be. Meadowhall totalled the city centre, all the shops shut down and its rubbish
There are also many, many old derelict factories and steel works strwen about the place which gives the whole place a creepy, dead sort of feeling.
I suppose there is the Crucible, if you like stuff like that and the whadyacallit garden thing in the centre supposedly has a nice fountain.
That's it really. Go to Leeds instead. |

The attraction of living in Sheffield for those that move there as opposed to being brought up there seems to be the Peak District a very short distance away. So if you like walking, hangliding or rock climbing its a great place to go. It has a very depressing feel as a legacy of the 30 000 odd jobs that were lost from the steel industry during the 80s. There are a couple of theatres but most of the culture is drinking owing perhaps to the unemployment and huge numbers of students during term times. If you find anything of interest let me know. My fav pub was The Porter Cottage but I haven't lived in sheff since last century. |

Must sees are:
The Museum at Western Park
The Graves Art Gallery (Best Jade collection outside of China)
The Winter Gardens
Meadowhall (for Shopping)
The Butterfly House on the A57 to Worksop
A walk along the Eccelsall Road Shops
The Cultural Quarter/devonshire Square near the Uni
These are the main things, but there are lots of small galleries about the city, and some lovely city walks. |

Depends what you are into....
The Millenium Gallery / Winter Gardens. The ski-slope. Meadow Hall shopping centre. See a Steelers game at the Arena. Go see a show at the Crucible or Lyceum. Go drinking/out to dinner.
Same as any city really. |
