Northern Ireland is the only province in the United Kingdom.
Wales is a principality.
Scotland is a kingdom.
England is a kingdom. |

The "Province of Northern Ireland" is the only British territory called "province" today. In this case, the title province suggests separateness along the lines of Canadian usage. The title "province" above all reflects Northern Ireland's unique autonomy within the UK immediately after its foundation in 1921, but today Northern Ireland varies between a devolved government and direct rule. Northern Ireland is effectively a constituent nation of the United Kingdom. |

No Provinces as I know it. You have different parts of England, Scotland, Wales. Scotland IS NOT a province of England as some of the other answers & your question suggests, it is a seperate country in the United Kingdom. |

Northern Ireland is the only province. Wales is officially a principality, with England and Scotland, and indeed the whole of GB and Northern Ireland, being a kingdom. On a more local level, the whole of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland is divided into administrative counties, though their importance and their boundaries have changed from time to time, and most people still regard the ancient county as being their county, even if it has been superceded.
Scotland, although it has the historic counties, has more recently been divided into larger regions.
Not all towns are administratively part of a county, even though they are geographically within one. These are mostly the larger towns, but not necessarily big cities, forming their own metropolitan areas, such as Wigan, historically in Lancashire (now Greater Manchester) but electing councillors to neither Lancashire nor the defunct GMC. Someone mentioned York being in Yorkshire, and despite its obvious location in Yorkshire, York has never administratively been considered part of Yorkshire. This is just one of the many peculiarities of the organisation of local government in England, London having a completely different set-up than the rest of us. |

Northern Ireland is the only province in the British Isles.
England and Scotland are kingdoms, Wales is a principality and Eire (southern Ireland) is a republic which is not part of the United Kingdom.
There are artificial political constructs called Regions, which were imposed by this government under orders from the European Union.
There are Counties which have their origins back in the 11th century. |

In the UK (United Kindom) there are 4 countries ; England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Each one is split into "counties". For example ; in England I guess there are about 40 counties, each has a main town called a "county town" (eg Devon is a county in the South West of England, and has a county town called Exeter. But the capital of England is London in the South East of England). |

North East South or West.. Or there is North east, North west, Sout east and south west. Northern Ireland or Ulster as the provience is known, Scotland, Wales and England... Take your pick!! |

The closest we have to provinces are 'counties'.
Provincial capitals therefore would be York in Yorkshire and Winchester in Hampshire. |

They are called counties.

Well there is Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and England.
Please do not get sucked into splitting England into provinces.
It is only legitimate to split us into counties. |

Provinces of the UK:
South West, South Coast, South East, East Anglia, East Midlands, West Midlands, Wales, North West, North East, North England, Scotland, Northern Ireland
Don't think I've missed any out. In fact, Scotland might have a few more, e.g. The Highlands etc.
Hope this helps! |
