the south of england, particularly near the coast. A three bed semi-detached house with a forty foot garden where i live will cost you 500.000 dollars. a small flat will cost you 280.000 dollars. and i live in a reasonably priced area.

Portsmouth
southampton
dorset.
Manchester is a bit of a hole.

Choose any City which appeals to you, then ask Google a simple question, like
"Manchester - Property to Buy"
You'll get lots of web sites coming up with details of housing and the cost.
The most expensive place to live is London and then the Counties around it which are within easy commuting.
Bristol has some lovely houses around the Clifton area and over the Bristol Suspension Bridge area.
Birmingham has expensive housing in Edgbaston and close to the Botanical Gardens.
Even in the more rural parts of the Country the local newspapers are full of properties which have an asking price upward of $1,000,000.

Hi. You grade Manchester as a place only when like anywhere it is made up of areas, neighbourhoods etc. For instance, Wilmslow is just south of Manchester about 5 miles from Manchester International Airport and is very affluent. It is actually in Cheshire (a county). Typically the most affluent areas of England are in Surrey, West Sussex, Berkshire, Hertfordshire. These are known as the Home Counties and surround the area to the south, west and north of London. Areas of London are very affluent, Knightsbridge for instance but anywhere in London is expensive if buying a house, even in the less affluent areas. In counties to the East of London property is cheaper, e.g. Kent and Essex. Areas East of any city in the world are generally less affluent because historically this is where pollution dropped from chimneys in the West of a city where the money was and is where the rubbish (Garbage) was taken. Further north Birmingham has affluent areas, Solihull for instance. All cities have affluent areas, it just happens that most of the wealth is concentrated around our Capital City, London. My house in East Kent, a three bed two reception house is worth about £185,000. Multiply that by two for US Dollar conversion. My mother inlaw's house in south west London a three bed two reception house too is worth about £380,000. In some of the rundown areas of Manchester you can buy a terraced house for about £35,000.

Best bits for the wealthy are in HAMPSHIRE and HERTFORDSHIRE and parts of SURREY. The average house price in England is about £230,000 (about $460,000) but don't think you can get a house in the affluent areas for that. You need a million.

manchester is not really that well off. if you wanted to buy a decent house in a nice part of manchester it would probably set you back around 600.000 us. london is the place to be around hampstead or notting hill a regular three bedroom will cost you around 6-12 million us, good luck.

London and the South East is generally the most affluent part of the country.

Average house prices are £250,000, so you would need approximately $500,000 to buy a relatively small house.

Hey, I'm from England. 1st of all, this may not help but this country is ****. If I could trade places with you, I would in a second. Everything is mega expensive and dont even think about moving to manchester, its horrible. The further south you go the better it gets. Rich parts.. Sussex and some parts of Essex. However in Sussex its widely peacuful and in some parts of Essex its really rough, like most parts of the UK.
Not thinking about wealth, my suggestions of life in the UK are:
Sussex
Cornwall
Devon
Southampton
Portsmouth
Hope this helps.

For the most part, it is not different cities that are more / less affluent, but areas in a city. Bristol, for instance, has some of the wealthiest (Clifton) and some of the most deprived (Hartcliffe) areas in the country.

However, the south, and in particular the south east tend to be wealthier than the north, but that is a massive generalisation.

Wealthy neighbourhoods...LONDON? Chelsea in London, Kensington in London, Knightsbridge in London.
Manchester isn't exactly known for being 'affluent'. I think down south is more.
American dollar is weak compared to british pound, it is half.
If i moved to the US I would be a millionaire, so if you are thinking about moving here to live in a wealthy place, you need to have about $2,000,000 .

$2= roughly £1.

as for areas that are wealthy. the less rough parts of london and a lot of east anglia. the further south you go the better the wages but the more expensive cost of living, the further north you go the lower the wages but less expensive cost of living.

hope this helps
