It is a clean tidy well managed city. A great tourist area with great pubs and restaurents loads of galleries and more canals than venice.

It is up and coming and just look at the Rotunda and The Mailbox and the Bull ring and the markets and the squares, loads of pride.

Its a City, has a bull ring, lots of people. Great for Indian cuisine, Canal hotspot, has airport, national exibition centre and Noddy Holder lives there

Birmingham is the best city outside London, undoubtably. This makes it the second city, even when you forget the fact that it has the second largest population of any settlement in the UK. Culturally it is buzzing, historically it is intriguing and and architecturally it is incredible!

I grew up in Birmingham and used to hate it. It has changed enormously now though and is great for shopping and entertainment. I like it so much, that I am moving into a city centre apartment next month!

I don't like big Cities, but Birmingham has great exhibition centres, theatres, concerts, magnificent canal network, good restaurants, good transport system including one of my favourite airports, good shopping and markets, architecture, fabulous library, good University and most of the people I've met there are friendly and helpful. So, as a City to visit, it's O.K., but I wouldn't live there.

I think that Birmingham is a beautiful vibrant city that is up and coming, it has had a lot of bad press in the past but I think that this is changing. Yes like a lot of big cities and towns we do have problems with crime but it is the same every where you go. Birmingham has so much to offer and I think that people who haven't visited Brum should definitely consider it, I think they would be pleasantly surprised.

It's a city like any other, no worse than the others, got it's share of problems just like London or Manchester.
The idiot who said it's full of whores propably got a virus visiting one, the other idiot said it should be bombed, you'll find he either reads the star, the daily mail or some other scummy newspaper which employs Richard Littlejohn.

If the power in English football lies in Liverpool, Manchester and London, what happened to Birmingham? Mind you, you produced Judas Priest and Black Sabbath so you can't be that bad

I have lived in Birmingham all my life. The things people say about crime and stuff is right but its the same everywhere. Birmingham is HUGE and every district is different, for example Solihull is supposed to be upmarket and the people think they are better than anyone else. Chelmsley Wood is very racist and only whites and blacks live there, NO asian familys would live there for there own saftey. Bordesley Green and Alum Rock are very ROUGH areas and are mainly asain areas. The shops are great everywhere you go, there are plenty of them. NEC and NIA, just brilliant. The airport is good but there security is crap. The hospitals are all overcrowded and try there best, but with government cut backs its hard for them, trust me i work in a Hospital. Houses prices varies in all areas. Sollihull being the most expensive with knowle coming a close 2nd. I would NEVER live in Alum Rock, Bordesley Green, Sheldon, Accocks Green, or Handsworth. I think in the near future there will be a load of trouble within the different cultures of Birmingham. There has already been trouble with the blacks and asians but I do think the tension is growing. I am not racist at all but a lot of people are in birmingham especially against asian people, In my ideal world everyone would just get on with each other but it just doesnt happen. I have wittnessed on several occasions violence because of the colour of the persons skin. My advice DONT LIVE THERE unless you can handle yourself, and dont go to Chelmsley Wood unless you are white, its very dangerous.

Over the wekkend in the hospital i work, there has been five people who have been knived, four people have been shot and i teenage boy thrown out of a speeding car and hes critical.

From a view point of a foreign student who used to stayed there, Birmingham is a big and somewhat messy city with full of grey buildings and red-brick houses. The city centre is like a spider net with disorder streets crossing each other, busy people walking up & down and hurry buses queueing in traffic jams.
To me, the most beautiful place in the city is the Birmingham University it self. It is a totally parrallel world to the world outside. The unforgettable picture in my mind is the streets around the uni full of cherry blossoms and daffodils in spring.

The two good things about Bham is that it's living cost is affordable for students and it is has nothing specials so you are not bothered by friends cos they dont wanna visit.

Birmingham is nothing for those who never been there, but it is a memorable place for those who have stayed there. It has many faces and you will discover it day by day.
