It's actually rather nice. All the people who think it highly amusing to take the pee out of and the people therefrom really don't know much about it at all. There are some lovely little coastal places amongst the more industrialised or army areas and most parts of it are easily accessible from London - and where else could the cooks get something like Maldon salt ! ! ! |

I have girlfriends from Essex who call themselves 'Essex Girls,' apparently MOSTLY kidding that girls from Essex are easy and a little on the crass side... It's kind of like Valley Girl, only it's mostly just a stereotype. |

My partner comes from Essex, he's well read, intelligent and not chavvy so I am biased of course.
There are some beautiful places in Essex, I think people concentrate on what the people are supposed to be like that they forget how lovely the countryside is. |

when some one says Essex what comes straight to my head is dirty slappers and men, scuffs and people who don't want to work |

Brilliant, don't anyone knock it. One of the main commuting districts for London without which there be would be a lot of embarrassing job vacancies. Southend and Clacton among traditional holiday destinations for Londoners, Colchester among oldest towns in UK, Harwich one of the oldest maritime centres and container/passanger ports. Plus acres of unspoilt countryside. |

Some parts are very tacky, noticeably those which are an easy commute to London. Further out there are some wonderful little villages. I love Great Dunmow, Finchingfield and the Lavers - favourite is Magdaline Laver - full of medieval houses and small windey roads.
Outside Abridge there is a theatre in the woods which a local am-dram company uses. It is off the beaten track and next to an Elizabethan cottage. Wonderful atmosphere and well worth a visit. The charity shops there are amazing. Very expensive clothes at ridiculous prices - especially for kids! |

Well I live very close to the border between Suffolk and Essex (on the Suffolk side....) - the two counties are most definitely different in many ways, but most noticeable are the accents, the fashion sense and the driving. I never drive in Essex if I can help it! The big towns are mostly awful, apart from Colchester which is still very pretty in places, but a lot of the small towns & villages are lovely, and the countryside is beautiful around here in Constable Country - Dedham, Stratford St Mary, etc. So it's not all bad! (But I'll always prefer Suffolk). |

A 2 letter county.
'S' and 'X'
Makes it easy for the girls from there to remember.
PS - thats a joke in the form of poking fun at Essex Girls so don't berate me for it.
It isn't my opinion. It's a JOKE |

Not a great fan of his films. He did make a couple of cheeky records which my mum said were ok, and of course he has that twinkle in his eyes.
Have I got the wrong end of the stick here. |

It's a dump. My neighbour comes from Essex. He's called Phil, but I call him "Essex." Clever nickname, eh? |
