Nothing wrong with the accent but not so keen on the voice
volume most of the time.

My boss comes from the Eastern coast of the US, and he has a lovely accent, but is also very soft-spoken. It's the loud, brash, nasal accents of Americans that grate on my nerves - but then, theymight not like my accent, either!

lily
irritating

It grates -

Particularly West Coast

True_Brit
Which one? There are loads of them.
I find most American accents I hear quite annoying, especially from New York and Texas. I quite like the stereotypical Californian accent, it sounds quite cool. The North, eastern accent is good also.
It is the nasal tones in some of the accents I do not like.

Used to love Texan accents, but somehow I hate them now (wonder if it's the Dubya effect?). Still prefer Southern Accents. They always sound more polite than Northern ones.

Well, the American chicks sound damn hot (and I prefer them over British chicks, since they're actually nice to me).......... while I find the American guys sound bloody irritating (especially when they're over here with their girlfriends, and i overhear them "sweet talking" to 'em).

There are so many and we really only know them from movies, documentaries etc., unless we're lucky enough to go there. I love them all;-New York Bronx, Harlem, New England,Massachusetts, a la Kennedy clan, Alabama, 'Nawleans', the Mid West, and that wonderful accent from the far North, as in 'Fargo', where they say, "You got that right", in response to everything! All local dialects are fascinating in my opinion and reflect the language and country of a nation of immigrants.

Which American accent inparticular. New Yorkers speak totally different to west coast and then there is the deep south!

It is similar to the Americans referring to the English accent - which I guessing doesn't been yorkshire or cornish!

Helena
I saw someone from the deep south on TV . . . I actually found it hard to understand him because he barely moved his lips.

In general, I find American accents a bit irritating, but it won't stop me from talking to someone.

I find the southern drawl so infuriating .... some of the other stuff is ok though...the worst is when you see british actors playing americans in films, I watched "big Nothing" with Simon Pegg and David Schwimmer last night...why have Simon Pegg play an american...haven't they got thousands of starving actors over there? ...and KAtherine Zeta Jones...she's another...oh god, this is turning in to a rant.....

I love the southern accent-esp when its a fine black woman saying "hey chile, come get some sugar" the real question is whether Yanks like an English accent
