I would have to say on balance and in terms of classic landscape beauty, the Lake District is the loveliest part of England, although there are some close contenders, such as the Cornish coast, the limestone country of the Yorkshire Dales, the Cotswolds and the Jurassic Coast of Dorset.

If you look outside England to the rest of the UK in Northern Ireland (Antrim coast), Scotland (the Highlands and Islands) and Wales (Snowdonia), there are places which may even beat the Lake District, many of which aren't as bogged down by masses of tourists.

Here are a few pictures I took in the English Lake District last winter:

Buttermere and Crummock water in the Lake district. On a warm summers day, walk round Buttermere lake for 3 hours then have a cold pint in the pub before you go to heaven!

I work in the travel industry and have always been lucky enough to travel abroad. I have only recently visted places in the UK, and we went to the Lakes earlier this year, and the views were fantastic. Also looking forward to visiting Cornwall, as I hear that the scenery there is great too.

Most people will disagree but I would say either Saltburn cliffs or Whitby. Both are beautiful places with fond memories.

In particular - The Lorton Valley.

As someone else said, the Highlands but they are in Scotland. So I guess it could be the devon /cornwall coastline or the Lake District.

The lake district and the National Forest are all very pretty and picturesque, however the bright lights of the big citys, London, Birmingham,Manchester also have an attraction (as long as you dont stray from the main streets)

Depends what you mean by beautiful. We each find something beautiful in different things. I like the chocolate box villages of Kent and Cornwall. But others might find the lakes and Dales more beautiful.
