About time they did it! I am looking forward to enjoying smoke free nights out. Even when I used to smoke I would have still backed this. |

Best thing ever! I work in a shop with a cafe where you can smoke and I hate coming home stinking of fags when I don't even smoke myself. Can't wait :o) |

Another thing we should be grateful to Mr T Blair for. Such a move would never ever have happened under the Tories. |

I think it'll be tough for you initially, but you will be surprised at how quickly people adapt.
I am from Ireland, and we were one of the first countries to bring in the ban. Even though I am a smoker myself, I love not coming home with my clothes and hair stinking of smoke. It's enjoyable to socialise when out, as you are less likely to leave your group of friends to go out and smoke alone, not to mention being beneficial for your health! (And that's coming from a smoker!)
If you are a smoker though, don't panic. A lot of pubs and clubs will have outdoor smoking sections, with a roof. At least you'll be dry and you can take your drink with you!
Smokers are really being targeted nowadays, and even as an average smoker myself I think it's good that others are not being forced to endure 2nd hand smoke.
Good Luck with it! If the Irish can survive, so can the English! |

As an asthma sufferer, it`s fantastic. Wow, just the thought of being able to go out for a drink and not have to come back and wash clothes, hair and body before smelling normal again! |

well i for one,as a smoker for numerous years, and might i add there's nowt up with my LUNG...have booked in for a counselling session to help me kick the habit. its a kick up the backside for me,which is well overdue to help me pack it up, just hope i can do it,Ive tried before and failed, but its hard when you are constantly around folk, puffing away all the time. any how i ll give it a shot. |

Bloody wonderful, i hate the fact that you totally smell when you've just popped to the pub for a bite with your other half! You get home and your clothes have to be washed.
I also feel its a good thing for future generations, i'm preg at the mo. and would like to think that this ban will put my child off smoking, all it was when i was young was a social thing - to take that away has got to be good. |

To be honest i am glad. I respect people that smoke are peeved about it but at end of day smoking is a killer and I don't see why non-smokers should have second hand smoke inflicted on us.
I would like to see areas set aside for smokers rather that them have to stand outside pubs, clubs and restaurants as that just looks tacky.
I remember going to a club in Blackpool for my sis hen night and the place was full of smoke....awful and so bad that when i got home my throat was so sore and I lost my voice. |

can't wait - best birthday present i could wish for! For months the smoke was giving me serious chest problems which I just put up with until I became seriously ill with a bacterial lung infection. It was only when that came to light that i was diagnosed with asthma in March of this year.
For months and months before I'd be in a smoky bar and suddenly gasping and wheezing,. and literally having to barge my way out the door to get some 'fresh' air. Suddenly a lot of things are falling into place, and it looks like I could've had asthma for about 18 months before diagnosis....
I'm looking forward to being able to go out, to drink and dance with my friends and not worrying about feeling like my chest is about to cave in. And to not have my contact lenses get all sticky where they've dried out. And to come home from the pub NOT smelling like an ash tray. And not wake up in the morning and catch a whiff of my hair and my skin with that rancid stench!
I've got lots of friends who smoke and even they're looking forward to it - one says that she smokes more when she's out because everyone else is smoking around her. She reckons she can easily smoke 20 in a night. But she says that if she has to go outside if she wants a cigarette, most of the time she just won't bother, especially if it's raining - she'll wait until she's absolutely gasping for one to go outside rather than just sparking up the moment everyone else does. She reckons it'll cost her less money in the long run, just by smoking less on nights out. |

Oh no! I never knew there was going to be a smonking ban,
I love smonking, smonking doesn't do anyone any harm, I always smonk when I'm out, life won't be worth living if we are not allowed to smonk any more.
Honestly I don't think I can bear living If I'm not going to be allowed to smonk any more. |

I don't smoke and feel sorry for the smokers, poor sods have been made the nations scapegoats! I'm very empassioned about the nanny state telling people what to do. I think it will be the death of the local pub or working mans club (national institutions) and how the hell are PRISONS exempt?
ps 1st is my birthday and i have a ticket to lords and a new panama hat! its my favourite day anyway! |
