Urgh,
It's awful.
We get walked all over and can't say boo to a goose for fear of upsetting others!!
I believe we are probably the laughing stock of Europe, a soft target.
Give it a year or so and I'm outta here.
I feel sad cos I should be proud of where I come from but this country is run by followers not leaders, and it's too late to salvage anything.
I pity the people who lost their lives fighting for this country only to have it turned into the worlds dumping ground
You get one shot at life and I personally want better for my kids. |

The word begins with "S" if it helps.....
Labour have flushed away what was once good here, and I see little future for us native English, in what is now the most overpopulated country in Europe.
As that Buffoon Prescott once said... "The green belt is a proud achievement by Labour, and we're gonna build on it".
Too right they have. |

Too many people, lack of morals and respect, far too many do-gooders, absence of common sense in most things, becoming a 'sue for absolutely everything' culture (thanks America!), and a government too scared to do anything sensible in case it upsets anyone!! Not exactly progress. |

"we dont do duvets"...

My honest opinion is it's a total sh*hole these days, standards have deteriorated severely.
I never thought I'd see the day we would become a haven for Muslim extremists the government are putting us all at risk with their open door policy, 10 years ago this would never had happened !!
Chris W, 10 years ago we weren't on the US list of country's harbouring extremists today we are, this really somes up the last 10 years to me !!! |

On a slippery slope where the inmates are running the asylum.
Even 10 years ago there ws some respect for others and their property, but nothing compared with 20,30,40 or 50 years ago. |

Some things are better, some things are worse.
I would say that transport, healthcare, the environment and the economy are all better. Whether we realise it or not, we all have more money to spend, and in real terms, things DO cost less.
But in terms of security, society, respect, social integration and national pride things have definitely gone down. There was no 'chav' culture 10 years ago. People weren't afraid of Muslims 10 years ago. Children were more likely to leave school able to spell their own name and have respect for adults 10 years ago. |

I agree with the general consensus here that you probably need to go back further than 10 years to do a decent comparison. With 10 years you're almost comparing like with like. Although I will comment that public discontent with many aspects of life in the U.K. seems to be growing and speeding up. |

I am able to compare it with fifty years ago. I wish you could have been there, it was great. I won't take Chris W's comments on board because is too young to be bothered arguing with. |

We live in a changing world, some things will get better, some things will get worse. No matter when you ask this question people will have always answered that it was better before, there's something funny about memory that makes you filter out all the bad bits and remember only the good bits. |

Not sure if things cost less (in real terms). Some things, yes, but food and fuel, no.
Kids have less respect.
There is much more litter.
Anti Social behaviour is now rife.
Gangs of drunken yobs running freely around.
Murders hardly make the news unless it is a multiple murder.
The Government gives billions away in foreign aid but can't find the money for basic services for its own subjects.
Our politicians are tarred with sleaze.
Most people are afraid to speak their mind lest they be branded a racist.
Professional footballers (Premiership) are paid in a week what most people take 2 years or longer to earn.
Reality show losers become famous celebrities and earn mega money as do ex members of disbanded pop groups. |

Completely fecked by Political Correctness,Human Rights Lawyers,activists,spokespersons,minoriti... and all the other s hit that have invaded our shores. Theses Liberal bunny huggers are the worst thing that has happened to a Country where the word "Great" meant something to be proud of. Now under the likes of that drip Red Ken Livingstone and the likes we are a multi culti population with no sense of history or direction. When the feck was Agbonlahore a fecking English name? Cunch of bunts. |

I like the way people like Alf Garnett (who is Northern Irish anyway) constantly berate the foreigners in Britain.
If all the foreigners left where would the English buy their food, booze, lottery tickets take aways and fags from? Who would clean up their filthy streets, drive their buses or work on the tube because the Shameless generation are above that kind of work and would prefer to sit around claiming the dole on council estates. |

public transport is better (I don't drive)
unemployment is much lower than 10 years ago
the NHS is better
food is better (but like the rest of the world, more expensive)
my grandchildren are getting a far better education than I had (yes, they are at state schools)
London is cleaner and nicer - can't speak for the rest of the country - but I love my city.
What "good old days?" I'm a pensioner, so I'm obviously expected to say that everything is far worse - sorry to disappoint |
