English-british reject Europe - but Europe rejects them - Everybody knows that they are the puddle of America - so there's no room for comparison - Europe is the future centre of the world and unfortunately GB is and will be out of it - GB is not european - they would say this every day - why should anybody contradict them ?

I am English compared to a Scot. I am British compared to a Belgian and I am European compared to an American.

That is all it means.

People who state: That they are English, were born in England, as i was. (They are NOT British)

People who state that they are British: Wish they were Born in England, but were probably born in: Scotland, Ireland or wales, or whom have been naturalised to British citizenship status.

Just follow the posts what people write, if they disrespect the mother country, then they are probably British, European, or from some other far flung uncivilised part of the globe.

Can't wait to see all the thumbs down, they will also be from foreigners.

I love this question....

I am english, from top to bottom, I do so hate being called British, any damn fool with a passport can be referred to as British these days, it should be stopped.
I am english/white born and bred.
They should change passports for those who wish to have one stating they are English I would gladly pay for it!
I hope the powers that be do not decided to call us all in the EU europeans, which we are not, I live in Spain, and cannot be classed as spanish even though I have lived here for 26 years, my husband is spanish and NOT european.

it means nothing. One is a continent the other is a nationality. Do not fall into the trap of thinking Europe is a sovereign country in its own right just because some countries within that continent have joined in a trade pact.

being british or english, is about being myself i suppose. I don't feel european in the slightest, when someone says european i think of france or germany or italy.

We feel different because we're 'islanders'; in the old days this meant isolation both geographically and culturally. The rich were the only ones who could go elsewhere to absorb new ideas , which they kept to themselves, of course! Now that we have a definite connection with Europe, it's taking us a while to get accustomed to it; Brits are SO conservative, it takes them AGES to accept change of any kind, but we're getting there......as long as everyone over there dumps their own language and speaks English [!]
