What is Eastbourne like?

I am looking for a short break to book for my grandparents to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary next month. I need somewhere which is not on a steep incline or anything like that as my nan can walk too far as she has problems with her spine.
If anyone has been, what attractions is there and would you go again?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Additional Details
I am not going, it is just for my grandparents, and yes they too are elderly, so i guess they would enjoy it.

We recently went on a coach trip for a short break and the Hotel was on the 'front' . It was superb ! There was a garden of flowers outside and we had nice walks up the pier. We went on a trip to a vineyard and did some wine tasting - brilliant !
Congratulations to your grandparents ! - they'll enjoy themselves

Eastbourne is a mecca for old people, they will love it.

eastbourne is the place to take them...eastbourne is a quiet seaside resort, it is not got the usual amusements or bingo halls like other places. It is known for catering for the elderly, there is a long promenade which you can walk on, a pier which has only amusments on it which i saw in eastbourne, plus a burger king. I went a few years back to watch the ladies tennis at devonshire park, which is a little village community near the sea front. I think eastbourne would be ideal for them to have a short break in, there are only hotels on the seafront,no chippies, clubs, pubs etc. There are many benches and seating areas along the front to sit down on and to enjoy the view.

Happy golden anniversary to your grandparents!!!!!!!!!

I would recommend Christchurch in Bournemouth. It has a priory, a river, it's near the sea, and the villages of the New Forest, the weather is often fine, and it is very flat. There are some lovely B and Bs about the place too.
I have never been to Eastbourne but I know that there is nothing very distinctive about the place.

i took my grandmother there and it is very suited to the older generation.

It is hilly sortof but the sea front is flat there ain't really many shops but you got your typical seaside shops there. there is a lot of eating place and seats about as well.

It's a nice, quiet place, well known as a popular destination for seniors.
The town itself is fairly level, and there'sa long promenade along the seafront. Not too many attractions, but there are many restaurants in the area, and a selection of good hotels.

Eastbourne used to be the classic place that people like my grandparents retired to. Nowadays it is more family oriented but still is somewhat old fashioned. There is a promenade on the front and numerous seafront hotels and restaurants too. My aunt & uncle live there and funnily enough celebrated their golden anniversary there a few years ago. I am sure they will enjoy themselves in a comfy hotel for a few days. You could try Tourist Info. for local events and places to visit.

It's a nice place for elderly people. Lots of hotels with sea views, an indoor shopping centre, lots of other shops too, and a nice place to walk around. The pier is fun if the weather isn't too windy!

I live a few miles from Eastbourne, and work at the university there occasionally, so I know it well.

Just make sure that your grandparents won't be insulted because of you thinking that they might like to go to Eastbourne.

Full of wrinklies.

Don't plan on getting anywhere fast as before long you'll end up behind an OAP doing 7mph with a 2 mile traffic queue behind them.

Quiet, uneventful and sloooooooowwwwwwwww.
