The reason I love my Oyster Card is because I can buy a monthly pass and I never have to stand in the queue every day to purchase my Underground ticket. I just walk into the station, swipe my card and get on the tube. Not to mention it saves me money and I also can use it for the bus.

Once you have the Oyster Card you should register it online. My wallet was stolen and I cancelled my Oyster Card online within half an hour of the incident. A couple weeks later I received a check in the mail which reimbursed me for the amount of money I had left on the card.

its another name for a travel card just that this one wants other info like your name and address.

brucebirchall
buys a number of bus journeys at a discount rate, saves driver having to handle cash. A machine swipes the card and deducts 1 from the total of journeys stored on it.

I would agree that the name is not self-explanatory, and conjures up no associations that would help you to grasp what it means. The only thing it brought to mind for me is the oysters taken for a walk by the Walrus and the Carpenter in the Alice books, who end up being eaten at the end of their journey!

It's a touchless payment card...You use it to buy train/bus tickets for use within London transport. You can either top it up with money as in electronic transfer or buy a electronic ticket that will then be encoded onto your oystercard.

Benefits is that you don't need cash in your pockets to travel and if you loss your card you can just get it replaced and still have your ticket active or cash in it. Whilst if you loss a physical paper ticket, you are properly screw**

To get through gates you just tap your card on a card reader and it'll let you through gates or helps to pay the fare.... read the website, it'll make more sense.

It's a pre paid travel card for use on London underground and buses.

The Oyster card is a form of electronic ticketing designed for use on Transport for London and National Rail services within the Greater London area of the United Kingdom. The card was first issued to the public in 2003 with a limited range of features and there continues to be a phased introduction of further functions. As of March 2006 over 5 million people use the cards.

A card used that will enable customers to take advantage of discounts etc. Used mainly with Travel on the London Underground. Lower fares are offered using this card. The card is registered in your name and offered to you for a low price. Attractions such as the London eye and Zoo are also offered at a lower rate with the Oyser Card.
