The maximum speed of any British train is 125 MPH. Quite a few are actually capable of more than that now, but 125 remains the limit. The fastest types of train are Virgin Trains 'Pendolinos' (Electric) now operating all services from London Euston to Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool & Glasgow, Virgin Trains 'Voyagers' (Diesel) operating cross-country inter city services, 'Inter-City 125s' or High Speed Trains (Diesel) operating for First Great Western, Midland Mainline & Great North Eastern and Class 91 Electric locomotives hauling sets of Mark IV coaches for GNER from London Kings Cross to Leeds/Edinburgh/Glasgow. If you are asking what is the fastest point-to point timing of a passenger train I'm afraid I can't answer that, but suspect it is probably a GNER train somewhere on the East Coast mainline between Peterborough and Darlington. There are probably quite a few with 100 MPH point to point timings.
Having just typed all this it occurs to me that I'm wrong - the fastest are Eurostar trains between the start of the high speed line in Kent and the Channel Tunnel portal. These do up to 186 MPH.

thecoldvoiceofreason
Currently its the latest version of the Inter-city 125 which by a remarkable co-incidence goes 125mph, that was beaten by the Advanced Passenger Train, thats the one that tilted on corners and could go 150mph, that one cost about a fortune to develop but never got into service as every time they trialed it, it made people throw up.

Uncle Wayne
The Eurostar is the fastest train in the UK, it reaches a top speed of 186mph but never travels this fast whilst on the British land.
The next fastest is the Virgin Pendolino which reaches 160mph and can also tilt approximately 8 degrees each side.
The next fastest is the BR Class 90 which are generally operated by GNER or One Railway which were leased from Virgin Railways. These can reach a top speed of 140mph.
