Just a few places (mostly towns) withing 90 minutes of London by train :
Eastbourne pleasant and clean and at night time not the quiet staid resort people think.
Hastings plenty of history, lots of pubs many with live music.
Herne Bay and Whitstaable both on the Kent coast near Canterbury.
Portsmouth history and the beech also a short ferry ride to the Isle of Wight.
Southampton lots of shops and close to the New Forest. |

There are so many nice cities near enough to London. Brighton is the most trendy and obvious, though. Also the most expensive. |

If you want to live near the beach but also close to a big city then Liverpool is the place to be. There are beautiful beaches along the north west coast such as Crosby and Ainsdale of and also lots of nature reserves. All of which are a stones throw from the city. Liverpool city itself has some of the most amazing art galleries and museums, it's been made european capital of culture for 2008. |

It's not a big 'city' (for some reason) but it's a big town with over 150,000 people..
Bournemouth.
Perfect beaches... Nice 'city'. It's own small airport.....
It's a couple of hours drive from London.
Brighton is a nice place... but it's mainly stoney beaches...
(i'm actually moving to Bournemouth myself soon =), it's a really great place..... ) |
