I'm an American who used to live in Bristol, and I have to be honest, if I didn't have to move back to the US because of the strict visa rules, I probably wouldn't have done so. There are so many things to love about the UK, that I advise anyone who wants to move to do so.
I lived in the southwest, which has a very high cost of living, and I never had an issue. If you move to more rural areas or up north, the cost of living will decrease. But the exchange rates between the dollar and the pound are still bad (I think it's clost to $2 for every pound sterling).
I made a lot of friends with my British collegues, who were so nice and welcoming, and were always willing to answer my questions on inane things.
I also came to love British pub culture, and became a rugby fan. And because Bristol is very close to Wales, I got to enjoy trips into Cardiff and the Welsh countryside.
The UK has a rich history and culture, and the people are so nice and friendly. I would move back in a heartbeat if I could. |

Most Americans living in England complain about (a) the weather (b) no free refills of soda in restaurants, and (c) you have to buy a license to watch TV. If these things don't bother you, you should like it! Learn the lingo so you don't embarass yourself. Don't tell someone you like their pants. And don't make jokes about the royal family -- you have to be British to get away with that. Required reading before you go: Bill Bryson's 'Notes from a Small Country.' |

Generally safe, of course there are areas to avoid as there are in any country. I live in the Midlands where people are friendly and welcoming to most people. The cost of living is rising as the government introduce more stealth taxes, but we still compare favourably to other European countries. I would be hard pressed to name another country where I would like to live permanently and I have travelled and lived in many parts of the world. |

Horrible..
Come and VISIT for a couple of months BEFORE you even think about making it permanant okay?
PROMISE ME. Because otherwise i really think you will regret it.. ( don't let the thumbs down fool you )
so come and VISIT and decide for yourself.
Don't just move here. It will be the biggest mistake of your life. |

It depends on what kind of lifestlye you would like to have, City life, Rural life, Close to London or any of the other fascinating and lovely counties and countries in the UK. Why not have some holidays here first and research the lifestlye by getting a good daily British Newspaper such as the Guardian? You could also watch BBC News 24. |

I love it, but depending on where you live in the states, you may find the weather disappointing, we have a lot of people from the states in London, you may want to come for an extended holiday first, perhaps 2 weeks in London, 2 weeks in Cornwall? |

Expensive, depends on what you buy. People are self, self, self. I wouldn't say you shoudn't come here, i think you should come for a few months. I'm just trying to figure out if it's any different from the US. |
