An incredible neolithic stone circle . The stones were quarried in Pembroke and transported mega miles to Stonehenge an amazing feat at the time . One of the wonders of the world and still being investigated . Probably a place of worship as well as being as a sort of ancient seasonal clock . Ley lines indicate it ties in with another stone circle - Calinish in Lewis and other places . Intriguing .

A stone circle, the jury's still out on what it was built for, but the two most common theories are a place of worship or a burial chamber

a unique stone circle unlike any other in the world, with its lintelled arches. The earliest parts of the monument date to 3000 BC. some stones were brought to the site from over 100 miles away, some weigh over 40 tons. they are aligned on the rising midsummer sun and the setting midwinter solstice sun. Over 200 people were buried within the boundaries of the monument.
