well Asda is a branch of Walmart, but the name you seem to be looking for is Tesco

ASDA is part of the Walmart chain of stores.

You're thinking of Tesco, which is a big supermarket chain here in the UK, but the ASDA supermarket chain is actually part of the Walmart corporation.

eleni
ASDA IS DEFINATLY WALMART ! Walmart bought over Asda and kept the Asda brand and added wallmart on to it, asda wallmart. Americans would find our stores quite bizarre compared to there own but if they bought someting in the US they could exchange it at any Asda!!!! and vice-versa

Toni
If you mean what UK chain is owned by Walmart but is quite a different store then Asda.

If you mean what UK chain is often referred to as like the UK version of Walmart due to its success and prevalence in their respective countries (and I think this is what you mean) then its called Tesco.

niall d
your tryna say tesco!
and no its not like a wall mart!
its getting there tho! they have petrol stations at some of them now tesco petrol!
but they don't really have a shop that does everything from guns to boats to food to clothes to pets!

I understand their appeal in terms of convenience and cost-effectiveness, but I dislike these megalithic giants of retail. I much prefer to buy from lots of individual shops, I feel less herded and support local businesses at the same time.

Matt, From N Ireland
Well There is asda which is owned by walmart, but tesco is more like wal mart than asda.

Ginga Xx
Tesco, asda, sainsburys, morrisons, waitrose .......

Big D
Sales in 2006 for Wal-Mart's UK subsidiary, Asda (which retains the name it had before acquisition by Wal-Mart), accounted for 42.7% of sales of Wal-Mart's international division. In contrast to Wal-Mart's US operations, ASDA was originally and still remains primarily a grocery chain, but with a stronger focus on non-food items than most UK supermarket chains other than Tesco. At the end of 2007, ASDA had 340 stores, some of which are branded ASDA Wal-Mart Supercentres, as well as ASDA Supermarkets, ASDA Living, George High Street and ASDA Essentials stores.

Tesco! :) x

There is no UK version. You can not buy guns at any supermarket in the UK.
