England and the UK in general has loads to offer, but it's just art and sculpture you want then London is probably where you'll spend most of your trip.
For general history and culture I would recommend Oxford, York, Stonehenge and nearby Salisbury, Bath, Canterbury, Lincoln and Cambridge. All of the above are pretty easily accessible from London.
But don't forget some of our more vibrant cities which might not offer much in the way of history, but definitely have plenty of culture to offer - Liverpool, Manchester and Newcastle Upon Tyne spring to mind.
Wherever you choose to go, have a great time! |

The best towns to visit are York, Durham, Oxford, Cambridge and Bath. Best areas include the Lake District, Cotswolds and the Yorkshire Dales. Of course you will also want to see London :-) |

Gosh, how long have you got ?
The Tate Britain and Tate Modern in London, do the London Eye if you can. Tower of London and the bridge for photos. If you have time see the V&A Museum and The Natural History and Science Museums.
Windsor Castle has to be a good touristy day out.
Like others have said, Oxford for Colleges, Museums and Galleries,The Cotswolds (Where I used to live) for architypical English scenery.
The Derbyshire Dales are wild and dramatic close to the famous Potteries.
If you go up to Scotland you will pass through the Lake District which is stunningly beautiful, carry on over the border to the Highlands, which I always think of as the Lake District but bigger via Glasgow which is a European City of Culture. Come back through Edinburgh for even more art and more culture and the North East for castles and religious sites in the Land of The Prince Bishops of Durham with it`s World Heritage Cathedral.
Wales and the mountains and great secret beaches and lakes.
Dorset, Devon, Somerset and Cornwall, Exmoor, Dartmoor and the Blackdown HIlls...do Stonehenge on the way and Avebury too.
Anyway, see all of it if you can. |

There's only one place you can come to that's Newcastle upon tyne as the people are warm and receptive to other people unlike a lot of people down south,
Newcastle is famous for its nightlife as it has been dubbed 1 of the top 10 party cities of the world and is steeped in history you can visit the castle keep in the town centre see the famous five bridges, visit many castles around Northumberland including the one where Harry Potter was made, It also has a vast amount of Roman sites to visit such as Hadrian's Wall and Housteads to name just a couple along with the few remains around Newcastle itself. We have some of the most beautiful countryside and beaches that Britain has to offer none of this pebble beaches they have down south. Its also within a couple of hours drive to the lake district which is very popular with tourist and your not far from the Scottish borders |

1. All Major museums and art galleries in London as well as Kenwood House, Hampstead Heath
2. Avebury and Silbury Hill Wiltshire for prehistoric stones
and a man made hill. Also Oare Hill (near Pewsey) Wiltshire (natural beauty)
3. Ludlow Shropshire for wonderful architecture and castle
and wonderful nearby natural landscape like the Mortimer Forest, Long Mynd and Stipperstones
4. Edinburgh Scotland a simply beautiful city.
Even this small selection will occupy you pleasurably for a couple of weeks. |

The main attraction in my town is the fish and chip van on Friday evenings, it's completly original dating back to the 1970's. In the unlikely event that you'd be passing by I would suggest a peek at Chatsworth House and Calke Abbey, both in Derbyshire and both National Treasures, each quite different, certainly overflowing with treasures. I hope you enjoy your stay, Cheers! |
