this is really easy AND completely free. when you're at T4 follow the signs for the train...you should also see signs for 'train to Central London and terminals 1,2, and 3. It is a train that goes from heathrow T4 to london VIA a second stop in heathrow marked terminals 1,2, and 3. The train acts as a transfer service between T1,2+3 and T4, so between these stops its free. The Central Bus Station is slap bang in the middle of the airport with terminals 1 2 and 3 all within walking distance to it (2 mins to each max). the journey on the train takes approx 4 mins and when you get off (underground by the way) just follow the signs for the central bus station, and within minutes you are there.
hope this helps

Take the Heathrow Connect. It is free around the airport. Once you get to Heathrow Central follow the signs for the bus station, it is a relatively short walk with moving walkways.

Apple Jacks

You can NOT walk from T4 to heathrow central - it is not possible - do not take a Taxi it will cost you - you *could* take a bus but it's not that easy - use the FREE Heathrow Connect rail service as already mentioned by d00mbadger and Fraser.

Walk, duh. =)

Take a taxi to Piccadily circus then a tube to Trafalgar square. A bus from here will get you direct to the bus station. About two hours and 150 dollars only.

If you are going to be in London all day get a 1 day tube pass and take the tube. It's a ***** to haul the luggage up and down the stairs, but it's totally worth the money you save!
