Mid Wales is the easiest to get to & the best beaches: Try Borth, Shell Island or Clarach Bay (But NOT Aberystwyth - too stony!)
Either go M6-M54-A5-A458 or much nicer, Bridgnorth - Much Wenlock - Shrewsbury etc.

to go along with J G's answer try Aberdovey or Towyn also mid Wales. I also like Clarach Bay and Borth . Take a nice drive through the Elan Valley on the way there

Mystical Mamba
there are pretty (but cold!) ones in north wales - easy to get to from brummie land

Weston Super Mare? Brean Sands? Burnham on Sea?

Weston Super Mare is 110 miles down motorway, so can be reached in less than 2 hours on a good day. The beaches at Weston are very good, the only problem is that it is on an estuary so when the tide goes out, you can't see the sea.

Weston Super-Mare is about the most popular with the brummies.

Rhyl or Skegness?

Rhyl is quite nice in the summer. Aswell as the beach there is a sea life centre and a water park.

A little further along the coast is Llandudno which has a very nice beach, a pier and some shops too. Depending on the weather it can be lovely.

Ryecatcher
Echo Beach faraway in time-bit like the inhabitants of this backwater city!!

lolly
Blackpool is great!
