Most cities are what you make them, to be honest. All cities have good and bad aspects. If you want to find good things, they are there if you look for them. If you're determined to see bad things, they're there if you look for them too.
I live in Newcastle, and the city centre and areas to the north of the city (including where I live, lol) are exceptionally nice, but there are some parts, mainly to the west of the city, that are very bad. Someone mentioned Glasgow as being like Soviet Russia - well Glasgow actually has a really classy city centre, but I can understand how if you saw some of the most deprived areas of the city, you would have that impression. |

My money is on Hull. It is one of if not the most deprived city in the country and to make things worse many of it's residents still live in caravans after the torrential flooding last year ruined their homes. They have had it tough there in recent times. |

I'm sorry but Newcastle is quite beautiful and so is Manchester,
I've lived in both
my sister often works in Liverpool and says it's even more beautiful
so is Leeds... and London
infact all the major cities are nice, but it's just some of the smaller towns or places you go are.. er not so nice
i/e in London apparently the east is not too swell
in Manchester people b*tch about Wythenshawe and Salford
Neaaarr, and I stress near, because these places aren't a part of Newcastle, but towns like Bishop Auckland or Gateshead are not too nice. |

A toss up for me between Stevenage and Stoke-on-Trent.
But Blackpool and Luton are pretty awful places too. |

Some answerers here obviously haven't seen Liverpool, just repeat old stories. Actually Liverpool has the new Liverpool1 centre, opened last year, and a new skyline along the waterfront, with some high-rise hotels more goodies to come when the new Maritime Museum and water-side leisure complex is finished. . .. http://www.visitliverpool.com/site/what-to-do/shopping/liverpool-one .. .. |
