What is the egg shaped building in London next to the tower of London?

Additional Details
I suppose it is more like a bullet than an egg. It looks stripey.

It is not the top of St Pauls Cathedral.

It's the 30 St Mary Axe building or also known as the Gherkin.
Designed by Sir Norman Foster

There's more info on Wikipedia.Here's the link

I thought to begin with you meant the Swiss Re tower (gherkin) but it's nowhere near the Tower of London, it's in the City. Perhaps you mean the South Bank City Hall building that Ken had built when he became Mayor? It's across the river. Perhaps you just mean you can see it from the Tower of London.

It is the Greater London Authority building, housing and servicing London's administrative local government, it is not the Gherkin!

If you mean the Gherkin shaped one, it is the Swiss Re building, which is imaginatively referred to by most Londoners as 'the gherkin'!!! If you mean the one that looks a bit lop sided (!) I think the Greater London Authority are housed in there

.............

Yep, it's the Swiss Re building, 30 St. Mary Axe designed by Foster and Partners.

Hope that helps!

Ok, I've found a picture of the London skyline with the Tower of London in the foreground. The egg-shaped building behind with the stripes which swirl round the building is indeed "The Gherkin" or 30 St Mary Axe designed by Sir Norman Foster. I rather like it!!

@homeincapetown
I imagine you're thinking of the dome on St Paul's Cathedral. It's the only "egg-shaped" building I can think of in theat part of London's skyline.

This si St Paul's (see source)
