essex, the best bands come from there because it is so depressing, thats why there songs are about depressing things.

Even after they become famous like Russell Brand they still say it was depressing and they hated it

Westward Ho! (it's odd, but it does have an exclamation mark after the words) in the winter. The most bleak, run down looking place I have ever seen. I live just a few miles away, but have to avoid driving past as I can't bear the look of it.

It's a toss up between:

Middlesbrough - the toilet of Northern England and the most polluted place in the UK.

Peterborough - a grim, bleak, apocalyptic hellhole. I don't understand how anyone can live there without suffering severe depression and losing the will to live.

Dundee - it might be alright now (I don't know), but when I last visited ten years ago it was the grimmest, dirtiest, most depressing city I had ever seen. Apparently Dundee council had to knock down half their council houses because nobody wanted to live there, which is not in the least bit surprising.

My opinion is Firvale in Sheffield I used to live there its horrible, Dirty ,loud and no green areas at all full of drugs and a busy hospital nearby yuck!!! Also the people are not freindly at all but im not suprised living there!!!

I'd agree with Rich B about Peterborough. It's the rectum of the universe. You could nuke the place and be able to justify it as a mercy killing.

Corby beyond a doubt. Bits that look like an eastern European slum, there are hundreds of tracy wearing 14 yr old chavettes pushing prams, a shopping mall full of broken lights and boarded up shops over the grim maw of a disuses and shut-off bus station. loads of grotty pubs full of tattooed bruisers who do nothing but drink all day.You practically expected tumbleweeds to roll down the grim, grey main road.

Whimple....

Me and my boyfriend were trying to catch a train from exeter to totnes (my boyfriend had a job interview)and the guy at the station said to catch the next train at platform 2, we checked a few times with different staff members as we were unsure and they all said the next train on platform 2, so we got on the train, and realised we were going the wrong way (towards london). We got off at the next stop at a place called Whimple. There was a train about once every 2 hours, so we decided to see if we could catch a bus back to exeter, then catch another train. After walking round for ages we saw an old guy who told us the nearest bus was like 3 miles away, so we decided to wait for the train, and continued walking round, then we got to this village shop and there were 2 little girls who looked no older than 10 who served us baccy......it was a messed up place....i never want to go near it again

I agree with the other posters who said Corby and Peterborough.

There are also bits of Birmingham and Lincolnshire that are AWFUL!
