I think the old Roman towns of Bath, Chester and York are all worth a visit. |

York...... as it has the world's largest railway museum, the York Minster (2nd largest church in Norther Europe), a medieval defensive wall running right the way round the city, 2 rivers going through it (River Ouse + River Foss) + many bridges going over them (one of the best being Lendal Bridge) + a large Railway station with 11 platforms.

All cities are awful, London particularly so, but York is probably worth a visit, for its heritage. |

Edinburgh, Bath or Manchester I suppose. Brighton (and its run-into neighbour Hove) is ok too. |

Swansea. As good a night life as anywhere, and you have the Gower Peninsular on your doorstep. (The first area of the UK to be designated an area of outstanding natural beauty) |

Edinburgh... Why... because its the Capital, one of the oldest Cities in Scotland and Europe. The buildings are amazing. Very Cosmopolitan, great resturants, bar and Clubs. Beauitiful scenery. The Edinburgh Festival, and The Tattoo which people come from all over the World to see each year. And us Scotts are noted for our Wee Dram of whisky and our hospitality. |

I think it's a toss-up.
I agree with all the folks who said Edinburgh, Scotland. Sooo much stuff there - history, architecture, a castle . . . also lots of nightlife for the younger crowd. Hard to beat.
My second choice would be Bath, about 80 - 90 minutes outside London. Great history and amazing hot spring baths created when the Romans ruled in the 1st milleneum. Don't know much about the nightlife - it's a much smaller city than Edinburgh - but the culture can't be beat.
Enjoy wherever you go! |
