Not only is it divided up geographically, but then each 'sector' is sub-divided into much smaller areas and these are numbered alphabetically (with a couple of minor exceptions in the SW area where extra ones have been added due to enlargement of the area).....SO.... unless you know whereabout in London you're talking about, you could have severe problems, as there are lots of roads and streets in different areas which have the same name ! ! ! |

Many. They are divided into areas. SW for Southwest, SE for Southeast, CRO for Croydon, etc. Then after the areas are divided, the codes are broken down into streets.
Sometimes housing estates have their own for each building.
If you know the address, then you can do a search for the postcode on Royal Mail. As long as you have the number and street, you should be able to find to obtain it from the site. |

London is a very large city so they have quite a few postal codes they usually start with either W, N, S, E, NW, SW, SE.
I think you get the picture, think of points on a compass! |

Which area? London is split into 9 zones each with up to 30 individual numbered smaller zones and then each street and row of houses has a seperate 2number and 2letter prefix so we are talking of millions of combinations here. |
