I think they are cleaner than New York Subways. Another thing I noticed is that they are much deeper in the earth. In New York they build most of the subways just below street lever with a Cut and Cover method. In London they actually tunneled.
However, the subway there has more stoppages than in NYC.
Going by bus is fine for short distances, but trying to get cross town on a bus is like most places, slow as cold porridge on a frosty January morning old chap!!!

In London......definitely the Tube. Everywhere else I'd use the train system before taking a bus. |

Ok, put it this way, people have wrote a song about how bad it is... Go to www.youtube.com and type in 'London Underground' and see for yourself...
Good luck with that, besides the pollution etc, London does have some really nice shops on Bond Street / Oxford Street... |

Its fast and generally reliable but is crowded alot of the timeand if you spend any length of time on the tubes you end up with sooty coloured snot! not nice. But as tube systems go it not bad! |

Tube is the best way to travel. ? efficient. Depends on what part of the world you are in. The tubes do tend to run a little late but on time for most part. They are crowded, particularly at rush hours with no standing room! Overall it should be a fun experience. If you are gonna travel more that a couple of times on the tubes, it is cheaper to buy a 'one day travel ticket' with which you can travel unlimited.
Hope this answers your question. Oh! by the way, they are dirty in some sections, on some lines but clean for most part. |

The tube is faster, runs more frequently and if you are in a hurry is the way to travel.
If you have time, take the bus... get a double decker and head for the front seat. It's a great way to see the sights especially if you go on Route 11.
Enjoy |

Tube is better. You can get a pass for a set period of time, and then just hop on and off where ever you want to go. Very handy. You can even take it into town if you fly into London Heathrow. I don't think it's that dirty, really. And it's only creepy when you are the only one on it with a creepy person there, too! They are very well located and easy to find, and you can print out a map before you even go, or download the routes onto a pda. Great system! |

I travel on the district line everyday from Ealing Broadway to Kensington, it's better than taking the bus and I would not even attempt it in a car. I meet quite a lot of very rich desirable men although as a married woman I haven't yet taken advantage of their offers. I leave work at 5pm, have a couple of glasses of wine with friends in one of the many bars in Kensington or Chelsea and get the tube home....very civilised, I would recommend it to anyone!! |

Hot, stuffy, smelly, packed ...
Some are cleaner then others and it's relatively efficient.
Welcome to London! |

Well if you have been on the subway in New York you should know that the tube is a million times better. They are very efficient and pretty clean most of the time. |

the tube is a very good way to access every part of london quickly and easily and is reletively cheap but i think you pay the same price for just going 1 stop as a whole number of stops! It can also get very hot and humid down there in summer (usually 10 or so degrees hotter that the outside air temp) and london is usually the hottest place in the uk in summer so watch out! |

The tube is the fastest and cheapest way to travel from one place to another in London. Just get a good mini subway map like I did and you are all set. Have a great trip. |

The tube is the best subway system in the world. The maps are easy to under stand, and it is very clean and cheap. |

Tube is quicker, but its not clean or comfortable. Bus is slower but you see the sights.
Either way a travel pass is cheaper than individual fares. |

tube cleaner than NY but breaks down a lot but pretty reliable and fastest way, buses can be confusing get a weekly pass and it'll be easy |

tube is quicker, but u can't see any of the sights on your journey. They run okay, but aren't usually very clean |

The tube is the easiest way to get around in London. It's bloody hot in the Summer though and somehow in rush hour you'll find yourself squashed under some sweaty man's armpit. |

i would go with the tube--it's very user-friendly in terms of being well-marked and easy to read the maps and follow the signs, and it goes pretty much anywhere you'll want to go, including out to the airport. it's not the cleanest, but it's not so bad that you'd feel uncomfortable sitting on the benches in the station or anything like that, and it is efficient and good about staying on schedule. |

Clean and efficient?????????? No way .................... dirty, crowded and at times unreliable ................ but that's travel in London for you ............ at least you have the option of getting off a bus if it breaks down - and they don't break down in tunnels on the hottest day of the year leaving people terrified, exhausted, dehydrated and frustrated.
Enjoy the capital of the UK!!!!!!!!!!! |
