What is there to see in Liverpool besides Anfield?

I'm considering taking a trip to Britain next year, and will of course be making the 'pilgrimage' to Anfield. Aside from Anfield though, is there anything else worth seeing in Liverpool? Any good places to hang out and meet the locals?
And is it easy to connect to Liverpool by train/air from London or Birmingham?

There is a lot to see.
The two cathedrals are well worth a visit.
The ferry is the best way to see the waterfront.
By day the architecture in the city centre is fantastic, and by night you'll have no problem finding pubs.
Liverpool has its own airport, also there are regular services from Manchester.

Well, where can I begin...others have said the Cathedrals, Albert Dock, Museums, etc.
For a drink stay around the Albert Dock or find the Blue Bar (a haunt of Robbie Fowler and some of the other lads)
Visit Penny Lane ... more good pubs. Go to Speke Hall and Croxteth Park too.
If you visit Anfield , try and do the tour and museum ... it's the place FULL of Silverware!!
Enjoy your trip.

two places in Liverpool, first off is quiggins, a little kind of hippy shop full of cool stuff and the other is the beatle shop - not the museum. the shop is in a basement as is full of Beatles memorabilia, but the fact the it is in a basement makes it so different - not so commercialised.

mickeok
you can visit the museums and art galleries.

if you want to meet the locals, get in touch with me.
Don't know your age ,I'm an old bastard, but I'll try to introduce you to the culture of the city.
Liverpool is vibrant, the night life is wonderful,
and the girls are divine.
Did you know that the ship which was so influential in the American civil war ,The Alabama, was built in Birkenhead, just across the river from Liverpool.
Did you know that Bob Marley's father came from Liverpool
In spite of all the stereotypical nonsense you might hear about Liverpool ,We are way down the league as far as the crime figures are concerned.
The city of Manchester experiences far more criminal activity.
Come to Liverpool You will love it
And more than anything you will love the people.

Liverpool is a wonderful city and has a lot to offer - it depends upon your tastes. A must is a trip on the Ferry across the River Mersey - go and see Birkenhead for shops or just do a round trip. The Albert Dock is worth a visit and boasts some nice bars and eateries along with The Beatles Story - a museum dedicated to the amazing group - walk through the yellow submarine - visit the Cavern. Visit the Maritime Museum, take a walk round the city where you will find statues and figures inspired by Beatles Songs. Travel to Liverpool is very easy from London and Birmingham by Rail as they are on the same network and Liverpool Lime Street Station is in the City, there is a good public bus service once you are there - enjoy your visit!

One word, Actually two. The Beatles. Get yourself down to Albert Dock, and see the Beatles museum. Then book yourself a trip on the Magical Mystery Tour and see where these lads grew up - the tour takes you to the actual Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields! The tour drops you off at the Cavern, where you can see a great band play, and enjoy a pint. Of course there is more to Liverpool to than the Beatles and LFC, but just for those reasons, its a great place to visit. I am sorry you seem to have invited some riff-raff answering your question. Liverpool is a vibrant city, full of culture and great shopping on the High Street. Also, it is very easy to get the train from London to Liverpool try the two links for travel help and advice. You will have a brilliant time! Come on the Reds!

I visited Liverpool for the 1st time last August with my husband and we had a lovely time. We stayed very central and there is loads of shops. Easy to get arond on foot. I had such a good time I'm going to bring my Mum in a few months for a weekend. She will love the shopping that the Beatles stuff.

Enjoy yourself.

Liverpool is one of the most beautiful cities I've seen in Europe. But the best thing about Liverpool are the scousers! People with great humour and always happy to help. The architecture of the city is stunning, nightlife for all tastes, great shopping centre, excellent restaurants and very close to some really good nature resorts. I speak as a foreigner that fell in love with Liverpool from day 1. You won't regret a weekend in Liverpool guaranteed!

There are good trains from London to Liverpool via Birmingham on the modernised West Coast main line.

In Liverpool there is the Beatles museum, two cathedrals, the Liverpool Docks waterside arts, shopping & restaurant area, plus the Walker Art Gallery.

Definitely worth a visit.

phedro
paddy's wigwam's pretty awesome, the docks are great, matthew street's fantstic, and so's china town.

for sights tho, you can't beat the RAZ

there is lot of stuff to do in Liverpool,, head to Matthew Street for bars and pubs, take a tour of LIverpool on the tour bus, see The River Mersey, The Cavern (where the Beatles and Cilla used to sing), there is Museums, Art Galleries, China Town, Tons and Tons of things!! Also Liverpool is the City of Culture 2008. And yes trains from London, and Birmingham to Liverpool is really easy. Hope that helps! Oh and by the way I'm a fellow LFC fan!!

well, obvioulsy Anfield is the best place to go first. but there's also the beatles museum, the docks, that banana lamb statue, the yellow submarine, and you should go on the yellow duck. its good.

Flagbearer
Well, there is the Walker art gallery, the natural history museum, St George's hall, the St. John shopping center, there's tons of shopping to do, there's also the docks, and Quiggins. And yes, you can get to Liverpool by train from Birmingham New Street station, its a direct route, I know because I live only 30 minutes away from Liverpool and at one point, lived near Birmingham and often caught the train to go back home twice a month from Redditch, near Birmingham! Also, when in Liverpool, on a Saturday night, the best place to go is the Krazyhouse on Wood Street, go in there and i can promise you, you'll come out with a girl on your arm!

BROWNFELLA
There are lloads of great places in Liverpool it depends what you are after. Cultural - Liverpool has some of the best georgian buildings in the U.K of course there are the two great cathedrals aswell!!! If like me you enjoy going out the there is Matthew Street were the beatles used to play and where there is now loads of great bars. If your after a more trendy atmosphere and on the look out for a few football stars then try the Albert Dock bars such as Pan America, Blue bar and baby Cream.

There also plenty of nighclubs the best probably being Garlands.

for shopping try the Met Quarter
