I have more than one favourite beach here is the first one. The beach by Scara Brae on Orkney. The only problem with this portrayal are the people that are there, I want it all to myself!! Look at the Neolithic site, thay even had little cupboard type shelves set into the walls, fireplaces and seating!!!! And the beach is so unspoilt and beautiful. A beach to dream about!!

Second is Mablethorpe beach in Lincolnshire, A proper beach, with proper sand and a proper tide that goes in and out, and donkey rides!!! Lovely holidays spent here when our kids were little.

Last of all, and your own favourite country, This place brings back fond memories of a summer holiday spent touring in our caravan.
We walked along the cliff top and could see over to Worms Head and look down on this fabulous beach.

I've not been to a huge amount of UK beaches because I detest seaside resorts. i know it's fashionably kitsch and i should embrace the Englishness of it but I can't..they depress me!
I'm lucky to live on top of a beach so on an everyday basis this is my favourite..
It can look very beautiful ~ http://www.flickr.com/photos/fern_k/2301465945/

This is probably more accurate though!

This is outside the Uk but it's the beach of my childhood. I went there for the first time when I was seven and I just ran and ran and ran. id' never seen that much sky and flat sand! I ran so much I retched! lol. I must have looked a sight because I had on dress that had belonged to my Nan as a little girl and i had insisted on wearing it to the beach ( 1920''s flowery number LOL )

Harlyn Bay - in Cornwall, I enjoy the contrast between the sea which looks azure (almost tropical) in the summer and the crashing, clean surf of
summer

If you could see all the beaches on the north coast, north west coast and western islands you would be like me and never be able to pick one. You just need to look at the ones used in the film Local Hero |

This is very hard for me to answer, I like arienas in morvern, also crossapol beach on tiree, and all the beaches on coll.
They are clean, very quite and lots of lovely sand. The kids pick up shells of different varieties some that you can not apparently find in the uk. It's great. |

I've always wanted to visit Bamburgh! It looks really pretty.
But for me the best beach in the UK (and in Europe) is Rhosilli on the Gwyr peninsular.
There are many world class beaches in Gwyr, but Rhosilli is the best!
It's absolutely huge! You stand on the beach and feel so small!
It's very remote, below the tiny village of Rhosilli. The sand's like gold. The way the hills roll onto the beach is so dramatic as well. You can see the famous Worm's head from the beach, and plenty of wildlife, like grey seals.
The surf is also world class.
It's a magical place!

Spurn Point in Yorkshire. It's remote, unspoilt and beautiful. You can walk for miles on the sandy beach at one side of the point and watch the business of the river at the other side. It's a bird sanctuary too. |

I like Whitby, Yorkshire.
I stayed at a campsite on top of the cliff (it was bloody cold and windy!) but it was just next to the beach. We had to walk down a ton of steps, but then we were right by the sea.
That was very pretty.
I also like Paignton beach in Devon. It's tacky as hell, but I love 2p machines!
Also... I gave everyone a thumb up. None of the answers is daft. |

I agree about Barafundle Bay. I used to stay there on holiday as a child, the sea was like the Mediterranean and the beach was perfect for sandcastles!

Nowadays, I also love Newborough beach on Anglesey. I regularly go there and there is so much to do. It is popular with holidaymakers and horse-riders and there is a wide range of wildlife.

My favourite beach in England is at Durdle Door, Dorset. It may be stony but it's on a small peninsula so there are beaches at either side. Really beautiful!
