Porthcurno ... went there some years back just after the training school place closed and before they sold off all the buildings for holiday flats ... it was fairly late when we arrived and by the time we'd got the luggage inside etc it was dark ... we had one torch between 6 of us and decided to go look for the sea ... it was a pitch black night, no moon and as we were fumbling our way down the path to the beach we saw shooting stars ... magic

that was my first visit to Cornwall ... I've been back several times since, stayed in St Ives which is gorgeous, camped at Treen and Lands End, stayed in a hostel in Penzance, and in a cottage at Tintagel (which was disappointing after having been in west Cornwall which is so much nicer) ... but nothing can beat that first time in Porthcurno

botallack mine... I went there on a really windy stormy day and walked around all these ruins of mine buildings... saw somone doing a ritual with piled up pebbles and this eldritch music playing on a scratchy little radio, there was a ruined wall, in this desolate landscape with 'Kernow bys vyken' scrawled on it, waves bashing agains rocks and around the pump engine exposed like a fortress in the sea, and the land around it has a raw kind of beauty, wild with tiny fields and old buildings that look... real, sort of poor, almost like some european country rather than the UK.

'Er indoors!!
The gorgeous little village I live in, because it's beautiful, but not over-run with tourists, and Kenneth Graham thought it was lovely enough to base his " The wind in the willows" on. It's not on the coast, but it's only 5 miles from the nearest beach, and near to all main tourist attractions.

St Ives is pretty, but so over-run with tourists, you can't move freely, and it's also full of la-de-da's, with more money than sense. Living here, we tend to prefer the "hidden gem's" that not too many people know about.

I like Mevagissey/Pentewan. The South Coast is so exotic, and the climate more gentle than the North Coast. I have happy memories of that area.

I've not been for years, we went a few places, I was only young but remember enjoying St. Ives, although I've heard it's more commercialised now. There was a great ice cream parlour. I wonder if it's still there?

Port Isaac. Went on a holiday there with my children when they were small. Great weather, friendly little town, a proper seaside holiday.

The River Tamar because it divides us from England =p.

My favourite place in Cornwall has to be Lansallos beach because it's alittle hidden paradise in the middle of nowhere, the scenery is stunning and the waters clear and shallow.
