What is your favourite tube station and why? |
There is a massive range of stations on the Network, from the madness of Oxford Circus and Victoria to stations with a quiet suburban/village atmosphere.
What is your favourite station and why? Do you like the architecture or style? Great customer service? Special memory at that station?
Interested in your thoughts Additional Details Thanks for answers so far.
Should have added my favourite station is Chesham.
Carina - Southgate/Oakwood/Cockfosters still have the Art Deco details inside. I have to agree I also love the Charles Holden Stations |

For me, it has to be Gants Hill on the Central Line. From the outside it is just like any central London station- characterless! But the full glory of the station is beneath ground with the high vaulted ceilings and wide airy passageways. As I recall, it was modelled on some of the underground stations in Moscow.
(And, for quaintness, there is the olde-world charm of the Metropolitan line part of Baker Street or the single wooden platform at Mill Hill East.) |

Baker Street tube station, as it is all messed up and confusing and has a really cool old style |

Canary Wharf Jubilee Line Station:
I love the open plan style feel to the station, it feels sort of like a cathedral, and when you climb the escalator into Canary Wharf, I love the skyscrapers around the area.
Great station, lovely area!! |

I love the outside of the art deco stations (eg Turnpike Lane, Wood Green etc) but inside the details have not been maintained and they've lost their character ... I love the inside of Baker Street station when you pull in on the Circle line, love the way they've done the lighting ... otherwise using the tube is a "necessary evil", not usually a very enjoyable or romantic experience, just an efficient way of getting from A to B |

Canary wharf station, as it is very modern and lots of shops/restaurants just outside the station. |

I like Temple Station because when I went to it, it normally meant I was on my way home!!! Also love the way you emerge onto the banks of the Thames. If you are ever on the Circle/District Line I can recommend getting off at Embankment and walking to Temple Station, a nice stroll at any time of the day. |

With most tube stations you seem to spend an awful lot of time walking aimlessly along never ending subways up and down stairs and escalators just to change lines or to find the way out and if you're lucky to find the way out you are presented with several different exits and of course sod's law clearly states that you will always come out the wrong exit.
Therefore my vote for best Tube station would be Mile End as to change tube lines, you simply walk across the platform (unless of course you need a train going in the opposite direction) and it has only one exit. |

Why would you want to look at a tube station and compare it to architecture? i mean.. a TUBE STATION
Most of those stations are the ugliest places in London..
There's so much nicer architecture around..
Anyway, ultimately if i had to pick, it'd be angel.. solely because of the longest escalator. |
