Try this site, obviously some of the expressions and sayings relate back to 'Ye Olde' times.

I think mostly you will be fine, nobody will speak to you anyway!

Just kidding. Um, rubbers can also mean condoms here too depending on the context.

Fiver - five pound note
Tenner - ten pound note.
- no such thing as "twentier"!!!

Katchou
Trunk of a car = Boot
Hood of a car = Bonnet

Subway = tube/underground (our use of the word subway usually denotes somewhere safe to cross a busy main road via a pedestrian foot tunnel etc.)

Sneakers= trainers
Freeway = motorway
Sidewalk=pavement
El = Docklands or overground trains
Movie= film
****=cigarettes/or snout
Pantyhose=Tights
Nylons=stockings (getting a bit carried away now)
Purse=Handbag
Wallet= purse
Ladies use a purse (normally put inside the handbag)
Men use a wallet
Bendy buses= an absolute pain in the bottle and glass =Butt

Okay, I was hit with quite a few that are comon language there and unheard of where I live.

Gobsmacked- Really taken aback.
Taking the piss- joking around
Doing my head in- hard to believe, driving me crazy
Winding me up- similar to taking the piss
Toe rag- usually referring to a wayward youth
Tosser- not a nice person
Nutter- a crazy person
The frog and toad- hit the road, leave to go home

There are plenty more, just cant think of them right now. The british sense of humour is very different to americian humour, it may catch you unawares.

HAVE FUN London is an amazing place.

The Shepherd
Bloody Yanks!

Jade
minger - gross. i.e he's a minger / don't touch that, it's minging

Apples and Pears - stairs

skiving - playing the nick

lush/fit - sexy

ruddy - bloody / flipping

Oh good one as well - don't stick you two fingers up with the front where your nail is facing someone - that means F*** Off - and is very rude. Always have your nails facing you [it comes from some old war where archers ahd their bow fingers cut off and those who still had theirs would thrust them at the enemy saying, 'haha we still ahve ours']

Fiver - £5
Tenner - £10

Oh - as well; rubbers aren't just erasers - that also means condoms.

tap - fawcett
chips - fries
crisps - chips
pants - underwear
knickers - underwear
trousers - pants
trainers - sneakers

ehm... can't think of anymore.

Don't swear though - just to be sure. Some people say words others don't and to swear can be really offensive. Crap is considered a swear word by half the population.

Have fun!

If you are goint to London the following will be useful:

"Don't shoot, my wallet is in my pocket."

A quid is actually £1 - fifty quid is £50. Rubbers can also refer to prophylactics which itself is an unknown word in Britain
