The locals will never admit it, but there have been scientific surveys that prove Everton is the far more popular club on the North End of Liverpool, and in the surrounding Northern and North Eastern suburban areas. The Reds dominate more in the South End, Southeastern suburbs, the Wirral, and in tony Cheshire.

Like I said, nobody around here ever wants to admit there is a geographical divide, but it is only natural. And yes, there are exceptions to this rule as always, and the locals will always pick them out to use in their argument, but the fact of the matter is if you walked into pubs on matchday in the south or the northend of the city and surrounding areas you can easily see which side of the City supports whom.

The North End was always, and still is to some degree the more working class, the more Irish Catholic, side of Liverpool. Again, plenty of exceptions to this rule, but on the whole this statement is true. Sure the South End has Black ghettos like Toxteth, and White working poor areas like Speke, but it also is home to virtually all of the city's middle-class, upper middle-class, and upper class neighbourhoods. The closest the North End has to this doesn't appear until you are way outside the northern city limits in places like Blundellsands, Aintree, and Formby. These are very wealthy areas, but predominated by "new money" and just don't carry the signatures of class and breeding as places in the South like Calderstones, Woolton, Aigburth, Cressington, or further out to Chester and the Wirral.

The trouble with this town is since nobody wants to turn it into another Belfast, they go out of their way to deny some basic truths about class, ethnicity, and religion. And unfortuantely all this anxiety carries over into football in a reverse kind of manner. In their quest not to build walls and barriers, which is a good thing, they sometimes fail to admit facts and see the situation for what it is, which isn't such a good thing.

I was born in Kirkdale and I am a Liverpool fan.
My dad was a red my mum was a blue
I have two brothers 1 red 1 blue
I have two sisters 1 red 1 blue.

There are some families that are totally Liverpool fans and some that are totally Everton fans, but there are no geographical areas.

Fans of both Liverpool and Everton come from all over the City. I was told long ago that their was a Catholic Protestant split which may account for your experience the North of Liverpool having a larger Irish Catholic population than the rest of the area. I'm an Anglican Living in the South of the City and I shout for the blues not the reds when they meet in a derby game

I've lived in Liverpool all my life and the only factor I've noticed as to whether someone supports Liverpool or Everton is who their parents support.

There doesn't appear to be any correlation between where someone lives in the City and the team they support. People in Liverpool, as in all areas I would imagine, move around to live in different parts of Liverpool anyway.

By the way I hate football, but if I was to care which team won I would say Liverpool - but I think this is only because my dad supported them.

The two clubs originated from the same single entity.

Everton was formed first and played at Anfield first. Some disgruntled players split from Everton and formed Liverpool FC. These players continued to play in the Anfield area of Liverpool whereas Everton FC rented a field and later purchased it at Goodison Road, in Everton.

The two neighbourhoods and modern-day stadia are adjacent to one another, thus eliminating any geographical sympathies from the clubs' fanbase.

I myself am an Everton fan but I come from a family of Liverpool fans; I am the exception as most people support the club that their families support but my father was not very interested in football so I chose myself.

Most places are fairly equal...I would say Evertton and Liverpool fans are mixed all over the City
