Please help, I'm thinking of moving to London, but don't have a clue about which areas are a bit dodgy. Was thinking Acton/Shepherds Bush/Ealing area. Any advice appreciated!...
I'm taking a trip with my parents this summer to London. If some random person heard me talking, would i be made fun of or something? Aslong as i'm mature and nice, i'll be fine, right?...
I thought it was a stereotype until I visited Liverpool recently. I've lived in 3 british cities and I've never seen such a large number of grown men and women in tracksuits. Such an array ...

I'm getting into a visual effects school in the states... and later moving to the UK. I saw alot of visual effects job ads in London.. I was just wondering how life is over there? I'm a U.S....
I know the English say the loo,the toilets or convenience to mean public bathrooms or rest rooms as said in America.I just want to know in which sense the English use rest rooms.bye! Additional Details I love British English.it sounds classic.
Americans may be better off than the English, but there's no doubt that British English is much better than U.S. English.
"naturally" simply sounds more classic than "of course" which Americans use more.you hardly ever hear an American says"naturally" it's very British you know
we don't use that term at all! If an american said it then i know what it means
Matt
Erm, we don't really!
If someone were to say it in an American accent I would realise they meant toilet. I guess the only other interpretation would be a room to go and rest in?
sam
We don't use the term rest rooms unless we are in the USA
jake
'Rest rooms' is an American term. We don't use it in the UK. Gents/Ladies is an equivalent expression.
andy l
we just dont say it
Leopald
Probably a room to rest in and bathroom means the room with the bath in not just the W.C.
scotland_rockers
bathroom and rest room are somethimes use 4 the toilets 2
TidyBoy
the bog lol only joking just called the toilets
Allz
just the toilet i think..
jaw me dead
Its not used at all. The only place i think it may be used possibly is in kindergarten or nurseries when the little kids have a nap, they may call it the rest room..... maybe!
andipie
We don't use the term 'rest room' for anything. I've always wondered why Americans seem embarrassed to admit they need to go to the toilet. We all do it. No-one will think you're weird for needing to tinkle!

And you would also have a problem if you asked for "the bathroom" in many UK houses (including mine) as you would be shown to a room containing a bath and a basin - NO TOILET - the toilet is located in a room containing a toilet only (a few do have a small handbasin) - and this room is called - 'The Toilet'
Public "bathrooms" are usually called 'Public Toilets' or 'Public Conveniences" not bathrooms as only the very odd one will have a bath in it.
Some offices may have a 'rest room' - this would be a room with a bed or soft chair for workers with very stressful jobs to rest.

As a place to take your break at work???

I don't know why the americans call it that. I would not want to take a rest in the toilet.
