I work in the travel industry so I deal with people from all over the world. I find that British people are way more friendlier and way less spoiled than Americans! (I am American by the way.) They have awesome accents too! Some of my favorite bands are British (Coldplay, Bloc Party) I like em!

teddy
that by and large they are hard working and honest but that they are being let down badly by the government who are ruining it with too much emphasis placed on being PC and handing control of our laws and way of life over to faceless bureaucrats in Brussels. And that we should be going back to having discipline in our lives, with our kids particularly, in the home, and at school.

Well, I think we Brits are fandabbydozzy, I have lived in a lot of other countries...and always found that people from home are the most helpful and polite !

well I'm English and I'd say that we (I mean the English, can't really speak for others on the British Isles) have our good points and bad points (pretty much like anyone else).
Good points:
1 Ability to laugh at ourselves and self-criticise
2 Generally moderate political climate (e.g. extremist parties don't do very well)
3 Generally tolerance of others who are different (OK, for sure and regretably we have problems like racism etc. but they are less bad than in some other places in Europe)
Bad points:
1 Can be a bit insular and parochial
2 Can (at least a minority of us) be unpleasantly xenophobic and arrogant towards other countries (that might seem to contracict the 'tolerant' point but hey not all 50 million of us can be the same)
3 Food sometimes ain't too good

Hope that's a balanced account

WISE OWL
They are one of the most generous people in the world.
No other nation has regular appeals like "Children in Need", "Red Nose Day" etc...which year after year raise enormous sums for good causes. Each time there is a catastrophy in the world they open their hearts and their pockets to help out. No other country has such a large number of so-called "charity shops" where people donate all sorts of things to help others. No other nation has pensioners who, once retired, give their time to others: meals on wheels, visiting lonely people who are housebound, doing their shopping for them , taking them to the doctors or the dentist etc...and give help to run the above charity shops as volunteers. The British give a hand to neighbours when needs be. Some housewives with spare time give it to ease the conditions of people in hospitals who have no families or help children with reading difficulties in schools. Others distribute collection envelopes in their neighbourhoods and collect them for various organisations like the Red Cross, the Lifeboat Foundation or Dogs for the Blind. Their churches and their schools hold harvest festivals, and the produce is then distributed amongst the needy. They have animal welfare charities that subsidise the treatment of sick animals. They send shoe boxes full of goodies to unknown people in poor countries. Their magazines and newpapers espouse one good cause or another. The WVS does good works discreetly behind the scenes and The Salvation Army collects clothes and has shelters for the homeless or the destitute. Local organisations run soup kitchens for vagrants. The list is endless...
And despite their penchant for meeting mates for various sports or the odd pint of beer...or two, British husbands are less chauvinistic than their foreign counterparts and more willing to help with chores and the kids. I have lived in several other countries and was not a Brit by birth, but I would not swap my British spouse for any other, and he is not a doormat either...bless him!

We are to soon to believe this government is doing things for us, It looks like the disabled in this country are going to be the fall guy for browns lack of prudancy with the tax payers money. but what the hell 19 million a week to host the olympics is ok and 35 million to the indian government to fight over is ok but 3.5 million to help the disabled in our own country is just too much to ask for. He wants to start and get his priorities right and look to helping the children and less well off and the disabled of this country before throwing cash away on others. other than that my house is your house, welcome.

I don't have anything against brits- my brothers girlfriend is- but I have noticed a lot of them on the internet seem to feel superior to Americans, and that's what angers me about them.

One girl on myspace was making fun of America because it's divided into states... you don't really think that's a reason to make fun of America, do you? I have more examples, but I won't bother you with them.

I don't think they are all like that, but the ones who are get on my nerves.

***I do think they're are Americans who act like idiots too, and I don't approve of their behavior either. Every country has ups and downs, but the question was specifically aimed towards the UK citizens and so that is what my answer reflects.

I've only met guys from there and they've all flirted with me a lot. So your people must have good taste...haha. They all seemed analytical, serious, hardworking, proud but still down-to-earth, dry senses of humor...in a word...adorable...in a phrase...totally my type. It's funny because caucasian and black American men do not appeal to me at all...but I make an exception for your men. I'm fascinated by them.

Well I'm British, but I won't be bias!

There is some very lovely people in England, and the UK for that matter.
You can tell there is some lovely British people who are willing to help others, just by being on Yahoo Answers
And then there is some down-right horrible people.

And to Americans who seem to slate British people ( not all, but some. ) Do you not have nasty, stupid people in America?

I think before *some* people judge, they need to step back and look at their country, not slating one they've probably never been to!

Someone said we have a wierd accent............ HELLO?? There are numerous british accents not just one!!!!!

And all the stereotypes about us are really cheesy lol I really don't think anyone believes them.

jpete254
The British are the most polite people I have met, and I've been traveling around Britain and Europe for 6 months now.

For example, in Britain people will wait for people to get off the train before getting on themselves, or will automatically get in line ("queue") for something, whereas many other people (Italians in particular) will just cut in front of everyone else.

And the Brits love to talk! I've been exhausted out of words just by speaking with my flatmates. They are really good at conversations, but will often use 20 words to say what could be said in 5.

And they're not as inhibited as, say, Americans in saying negative things about a person, especially to your face. Not rudely, though, because they are really polite.

One other difference with Americans that I've noticed is the patience of the Brits. When there's a train delay, or a store is closed, the ATM is broken, or the bus breaks down, Brits will shrug (often saying "fair enough") and inconvenience themselves to get around the problem. Americans would start bitching and complaining until someone fixes it. Which is one thing I miss about the US--everything's so customer-friendly and convenient.

I don't have much to compare it to. I live in Northern Ireland and have only really spent a maximum of 2 weeks at any one time outside of it on holidays etc.

But really, I can't complain. I have a good standard of living and feel well looked after, I complain about the weather all the time, but putting things in perspective, there are a lot of worse places we can be living!

I am British and my opinion follows. Of course you must understand it is a generalisation and there are many individual exceptions. I think by and large Brits are unpleasant
and aggressive; they base their lives on dislike of other people who are always too poor, too rich, too fat, too black,
too white, too stupid, too educated, too gay or too straight. Britain is a very tribal country; if you are slightly different to the tribal conventions of where you happen to live you will be hated and loathed.

dan08
We're not all that bad. But when you look at Britain you do think, "hmmm our country stinks" Especially Northern Ireland where i live, it has the highest teenage pregnancy rate in either the UK or Europe. Im moving when i finish uni. House prices are so expensive and the health service is a shambles (go casualty on bbc1!)
British people dont get out enough. Obesity is a growing problem here nowadays. Theyre all too uptight about every thing. Catholic/Protestant, Gay/Straight, Migrant Workers etc. People here need to be more open minded.

Angel
The UK is England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland altogether.
I am not British but English, you can't lump us altogether.

Weak, jealous, obese, pompous, inferiority complex, stuck-up,bad breath from those nasty teeth. Other than that, basically inferior.

I don't really think this. I wanted to use this opportunity to bash the British, as they are ALWAYS doing to me and my people in the U.S.

I think you are AWESOME. Love ya' babe, don't ever change.
