It is like living in the united nations, without people being united. The majority can't or won't speak English. The weather is pants. You can't speak your mind or express an opinion. You might as well be in a foreign prison. At least you get out of paying tax. |

I see from the above answers that there are lots of negative answers about the weather again. Scotland, West Wales
and Northern Ireland are somewhat wetter than other European countries, but most of England isn't particularly wet; we get quite a few grey days but the overwhelming trend is towards milder winters and hotter summers and in fact there have been many droughts over the past 20 years. If you like nature and the natural landscape the U.K. is a great country, for within a relatively small area we have mountains, forests, gentle green hills and chalk downland. Much of the coastline is dramatic and extraordinarily beautiful too particularly in the counties of Dorset and Cornwall. Most of the
larger cities have very multi racial populations and apart from in London, the different population groups seem to live very separate lives from each other; many cities and towns have old historical centres with stunning architecture but the suburban and outer areas are often uniform and unattractive
and with their shopping malls resemble their American counterparts. Crime often allied with drug use is often a problem in certain areas of large towns and cities too. London has a superb cultural life with numerous concert halls, theatres, art galleries and museums and the major provincial cities likewise. Although not as efficient as in Germany, Switzerland and Holland, the U.K. has a dense frequent rail network and I manage well without a car. Within bigger cities there are good networks of buses and or trams
and suburban trains. London and Glasgow have Underground systems too. Britain is expensive to live in and
an expensive place for a holiday; business likes to make big profits here. |

The best thing about the UK is that on average it is pretty good living here. The weather is always cursed but it never really gets below -10degrees c or above 32 degrees c it rains but catastrophic flash floods are an extreme rarity. We have strong gales sometimes, but hardly ever do hurricane force winds make landfall. We do have tornados but not ones that flatten whole towns, we dont have forest fires or serious earthquakes either. The scenary here is amazing and so is the history. Our problem is that we are totally reactionary and belive everything it says in the newspaper. All the negative things. Binge drinking (it just used to be called drinking) price of fuel (I thought people were supposed to use less fuel)
Anti social behavior. All these things always did exist but now you get to see it on television. People who disagree with youngsters drinking now can see cctv footage of kicking out time on saturday night, If a child gets murdered we say it is a sign of the times, but the chance of your child being murdered now is statistically the same as it was in the 1950's.
Although we can be quite negative, the british have a great piss taking sense of humour, you can't be in a pub for more than five seconds without somebody joking and pulling your leg, it makes work days go pretty fast too. People always say that they want to leave, but these are usually people of a certain age and political persuasion. You could do a lot worse than living in Britain. millions of immigrants can't be wrong. |

I Love the UK...my favourite part is the seasons, the cities and Countryside
I love our food and sense of humour, I love the British peoples grit and the way they can overcome anything.
I hate the fact the Cinema is £6 and that we are letting in all these immigrants and looking after them, instead of concentrating on the millions of homeless BRITISH people who are dying in the streets everyday and all the children who come out of school with no qualifications, and the failing NHS service.
After we have sorted out our own problems we can start to help others. |
