If you remember that the full title is, "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland", it's obvious. GB excludes NI.

Pisces
UK (United Kingdom) is England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. (The south of Ireland is Eire and is not part of the UK or Great Britain.)

Great BritAin is England, Scotland and Wales.

Great Britain (Britain) =
England, country - capital = London
Wales, country and Principality - capital = Cardiff
Scotland, country - capital = Edinburgh

(Great Britain may well be a translation of the French term Grande Bretagne, which is used in France to distinguish Britain from Brittany (in French: Bretagne)),

United Kingdom =
England
Wales
Scotland
Northern Ireland, Province known as Ulster - capital = Belfast
Commonly known as:
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

So the difference between the two is Northern Ireland!

Southern Ireland, country known as Eire - capital = Dublin, has not been part of the United Kingdom since the early 1920's

The UK consists of Scotland, Wales, England AND Northern Ireland, whereas Great Britain only consists of Scotland, Wales and England

UK=GB + NI

The act of union of 1707 created great britain
That the two kingdoms of Scotland and England shall, upon the Ist day of May next ensuing the date hereof, and for ever after, be united into one kingdom by the name of Great Britain, and further
and that the ensigns armorial of the said United Kingdom be such as Her Majesty shall appoint, and the crosses of St. Andrew and St. George be conjoined in such manner as Her Majesty shall think fit,and used in all flags, banners, standards and ensigns, both at sea and land.
That, from and after the Union, there be one Great Seal for the United Kingdom of Great Britain, which shall be different from the Great Seal now used in either kingdom; and that the quartering the arms and the rank and precedency of the Lion King of Arms of the kingdom of Scotland, as may best suit the Union, be left to her Majesty; and that, in the meantime, the Great Seal of England be used as the Great Seal of the United Kingdom, and that the Great Seal of the United Kingdom be used for sealing writs to elect and summon the Parliament of Great Britain
And that the official title of the kingdom be herinafter called that of The United Kingdom of Great Britain

PASS ; I think Great Britain was when we had an empire and we were feared by others, the UK I think came about just over 300 yrs ago when Robert (the traitor) Bruce saw fit to break bread with the English after the death of Wallace. By then there was a central governing body which was then located to London, being thew most southerly and most populated area.
Could be wrong though

Hi,

Great Britain is the main Isle containing England Scotland and Wales and also the small islands off their coasts.

The United Kingdom also includes Northern Ireland

You sometimes see it represented as the United Kingdom and Ireland in this case they are including Southern Ireland into the total mass.

Great Britain on it's own is the eight largest island in the world.

If you go anywhere else in the world, we're called the UK.

none =)

History is where the answer lies I believe.

Great Britain comes from when we were an empire with colonies around the world and queen Victoria was alive and kicking / now we have given some of these colonies back we are no longer Great but just United . And Northern Ireland is apart of United Kingdom along with Scotland ,England,Wales and Southern Ireland.
We are a nation that is United like the United States Of America( U.S.A)
