Walking hitchhiking or taking the bus. Saves the planet too.

Walking would be the cheapest but might take a while. I would recommend taking the coach.

I travel from Lincoln to Liverpool via Birmingham, and this is £35 return. I have just looked on the National Express coach site and there is a direct route from Birmingham Digbeth coach station to Manchester for £13.80 return. It takes four hours, just to let you know.

Good luck with the interviews. :)

The train takes less than half the time of the coach - the hourly fast train takes only 90 minutes. As long as you book your tickets in advance for specific trains you should get some cheap deals. If you are age 16-25 a young persons railcard at £24 per year will give you a further one third discount off most tickets except during the weekday morning rush hour. Go to the ticket office at Birmingham New Street Station. www.railcard.co.uk
