When are Birmingham's Christmas Markets?

Show all answers

Ozzy D
The markets usually start around the beginning of Novemeber as do the German markets, well worth a visit, and is one of the biggest markets of its kind in the UK. Each year the German Market sets up its stalls in Victoria Square and along New Street. A wide variety of traders selling crystals, glassware, jewellery, handmade artifacts, German food, toys and a wide range of festive traditional decorations.

Set out in a series of wooden huts stretching from Victoria Square right down New Street, the customer has the opportunity to purchase some unique and unusual Christmas gifts. Apart from the market there is also a stage where live music is performed and a visit to the German beer tent is a must. This year saw a formal opening by the German Ambassador, complete with a brass band from Frankfurt and a local choir. This certainly livens up New Street and brings a good atmosphere to the city centre.

Well...I don't think that they are in summer........the clue could be in the word "Christmas"

Birmingham no longer celebrates Christmas, as it may offend non-Christians (ie Muslims), at least according to the City Council.

I'm not sure when the Winterval Market will be. Possibly in Winter.

The Frankfurt Christmas Market has enjoyed much success in Birmingham in recent years. With over 75 stalls filling Victoria Square and the upper part of New Street, the market 2006 will not only be bigger and better, it will also be the largest authentic German Christmas market outside of Germany or Austria.
It operates from mid-November to late December each year and is open from 10.00am to 8.00pm.

umm i think it might be at christmas time!!!

jennie c
i think they start about mid november and go on until possibly a couple of days before xmas, well worth a trip especially in the evening when they're all lit up

Robb the B.D.C.
It normally starts about mid November.

Ozzy D is right, although his answer sounds as though it was lifted from a tourist information brochure. I have been going to the German market for the last 5 years and it isn't as good as it used to be. Too many of the stall holders have Brummie accents these days, and there are too many duplicated stalls.
But it's worth going for the food and drink!
