Where's the best place in the UK for a traditional "sea & sandcastles" type holiday?

Want to take my son for one before he gets too old to enjoy it.

newgale in wales!
there's a beautiful beach a mile long with nice sea for swimming. there're rocks at the end for clambering on and for looking at crabs in. the waves crash over thhe rocks when it gets rough.
there're cliffs all around for walking over with amaxzing views of beach, sea, and islands.

lots of ice-cream shops.

places to stay are all nearby and with brillinat views.
enjoy,
it's magical!

Weymouth in dorset. Had many a childhood holiday there soaking up the sun, building sandcastles and paddling in the sea. Where every you go enjoy!.

St Ives, Cornwall
Porthmeor Beach has the finest sand in the known universe, although Fistral Beach is a close second. St Ives has the freshest Fish and Chips in the UK, and the Tate Modern is great, especially for kids who are not as full of preconceived ideas about art as adults are, and so really enjoy the stuff that is in there.
I do not work for the Cornish Toursit Board, i just love the place and i miss it when i am not there, as does my 8 year old daughter.

Definately Cornwall. Hayle which is in St Ives Bay has a three mile stretch of gorgeous golden sands perfect for children. Check out www.golds-hire.co.uk for self catering accomm.

U can't go wrong with Bude in Cornwall Donna. It has a fab beach and plenty to see and do around there and it's just across the border from Devon, so it's not far to go either.
If you fancy a cottage have a look at estuarycottages.co.uk they have cottages to suit all budgets and are based in Fowey in Cornwall. Par is just a stones throw from there with a very safe sandy beach there. You can wade into the water at Par about quarter of a mile from the beach and still be only up to your knees in water.

I would say Devon/Cornwall area, lots of fab beaches and lovely clear waters.

I spent many a happy childhood holiday on these beaches, sometimes better than foreign holidays!

Bournemouth.

Bournemouth, Margate, Swansea/ Mumbles, Isle of Wight,
Southsea, Bognor Regis, Weston Super Mare, Great Yarmouth,
Felixtowe, Blackpool, Cleethorpes, Brighton, Lyme Regis... - depends which is most convenient for you

Pete H
Most places on the south coast are great. Try Exmouth in sunny Devon for exactly the sort of holiday that you want or maybe Dawlish.

I would say Weymouth - there used to be someone who did sand sculptures and a lovely sandy beach and plenty going on near the seafront...

blackpool great yarmouth or rhyl in wales

Cornwall & North Devon coast is stunning.

If you are looking for more beach town - try Bournemouth.

Do not go to Weston Super Mare or Paignton or Torquay..

Im very ashamed to admit this, but I watched "coast" theother day, and they actually tested the sand in three holiday destinations that claimed to have the best sandcastle sand. it was Bournemouth, Torquay and somewhere else that way.

basicly Torquay won, they bult a sandcastle and it took a weight of over 8 kilo's before it collapsed! next was bournemouth which took 6 kilo's.

K
Camber Sands, which is in the South East of England just between Hastings and Rye. It is actually a sandy beach, so plenty of opportunity to make a sand castle, plus the near by towns are great places to visit with great history.

think your spoilt for choice here theres loads of places round the coast, personaly i take my caravan to anglesey, lovely beaches and scenery.

Kevan M
Loads of places around the Country. Depends where you live. For the Sussex, Kent, Hampshire area, look towards Margate, Broadstairs, Rye, Camber Sands, Pevensey, Littlehampton, Bognor Regis, or The Isle of Wight, Sandown.

Always remember My own days out with the family to beaches and the enjoyment it always gave us.

Western-Super-Mare .... great place for nippers.

I would say Blackpool - I've never been, but it strikes me as a kiss me quick, fish & chips and hankies on the head type of holiday!!

Don't mean to sound stereotypical, as I said, I've never been, and I don't mean to offend any people from Blackpool!!
